Based on an article in the Swedish newspaper "Svenska Dagbladet", Nokia will launch in two weeks (launch event on September 8th in New York) a new communicator, 9300.
The new communicator will be smaller than the 9500 (put together not bigger than a Nokia 6310). Due to the size there will be no WLAN integrated. In addition there will be no camera and less memory. Otherwise the 9300 will be identical to the 9500. Yes, there will be a keyboard!
The 9300 should hit the shop roughly 4-6 weeks after the 9500 this autumn.

The 9500 is Series 80, not Series 90.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah....so shoot me 🙄 😉
Well *technically* the communicator uses Symbian OS and the undlerying code of the Series 90 witht the UI elements of crystal, and calls that Series 80 (IMO) so if we're talking guns, then let's use the right calibre. I think you'll all like my article tomorrow on the 9500.
I just hope they don't shrink it too much so the keyboard will remain usable for touch-typing.
In the UK, Carphonewarehouse claim the 9300 will be available in their stores soon (next few weeks).
From following the forums here, it seems that CPW often does that.
I don't know if it is accidental or some kind of deliberate sales tactic that they use systematically to get people to preorder devices from them, even if they must know that they won't have the devices.
Who do you believe? A reseller which has posted misleading information many times in the past, or the manufacturer itself, whose web page for the model says: "Availability: 1st quarter of 2005": http://www.nokia.com/phones/9300 ?
@N/A
I am just reporting what CPW have said in their store magazine. I am not aware of poor marketing by CPW in the past - you may be correct on this point. In any case, my local store said they would check again next week with their HQ/Corporate people about the claim that the 9300 was to be released in Nov. Besides the potentially bad business of claiming earlier releases, I suppose we need to remember that Nokia are also often wrong about their release dates and that their phones are released later than expected. On this basis late Q1 05 seems realistic!
Maybe they are confusing it with the 9500. I've heard similar stories before... 🙄
