I sent a music file from my pc to my QD but when it nearly finished, it said "memory full" and then the device turned off. I tried to turn it on but all that appeared is only "NOKIA" then auto turn off after 30 sec. How can I format the fone, or how to fix it ? Help me, please !
N-Gage QD doesn't boot
sorry to say this my friend but you got W.S.O.D. stands for white screen of death. you need to flash your qd.
Thank u very much anyway but how to flash it ?
Do I have to bring it to the service ?
IT's probably the only way ... bring it to a service center ...
how do i transfer my mp3 to my qd without gettin the W.S.O.D.??
is there a proper way or summin...cuz wahtever i get via bluetooth goes to the inbox
and if i hafta get a song more than 4 mb then the phone will hang cuz ov less memory?
i need a reply cuz the nokia service center here takes around 8 hrs to fix a phone and i dont have tht much of time. so ..
Like it has been mentioned here so many times before (HINT HINT), you need to use PC-Suite to transfer files straight to the MMC. PC-Suite should come bundled with your QD on a CD. If not, download the software from www.n-gage.com.
Thank u all, may be i'll bring it to a service center. Anyway, I have some question:
- Is W.S.O.D only QD's problem or the series 60's problem ?
- So this problem can be solved by using PC Suite but what if I want to transfer a big file from other devices such as other fones, PDA, ... ?

It seems to be a problem with people not realising that a 4MB file wont fit in a 3MB space.

Most Series 60 phones only have about 3.2-3.4MB free storage memory on C:, so you can forget about transferring anything above that from another phone/PDA. It really is very simple.

I didn't mean transfer a big file directly to the main memory, I actually meant transfer to the MMC card. It can be done easily transferring a big file to MMC card using PC Suite but how can other phones/pda send a big file to the MMC ???
I know what you meant, but you didn't get my point. You CANNOT transfer files from another phone or PDA straight to your phone's MMC card. The file will get stored in your Messages - Inbox, which is located on C:. There is a way to change the Inbox location to E:, but it is rather complicated and generally not recommended.
However, if the phone or PDA you want to send a large file from has a larger amount of internal memory and accepts MMC card, you could always put your MMC card in that device to get the file.

Use an application called "Forward" which will store messages directly on the MMC card, which will make this possible ...

Really? How does it work? I've read the product description of that program, but didn't see any mention of such a feature...

Yeah, I always thought that Forward would transfer things from your Inbox to your MMC, but only once they had been received in your Inbox - not on the fly.
OK Sorry I might have been to quick to state that, haven't tried it myself, just based my statement on the following thread: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/27108/
ok my dear friends if u think that wsod is a great problem u r wrong .
just follow the simple steps.
1) remove battery
2) remove sim card
3) go out and watch a movie ( i mean wait for 2-3 hours)
4) reinsert sim and battery
5) enjoy
how is it possible??? well by doing this the temp files are removed from memory giving enough space for phone to boot. But remember to delete those exccessive files as soon as phone boots.

Thats not always the case.....
My friends n gage wont boot and has, wsod (as you n gagers call it) and i have tried this method, and it didnt work.
He has an original n gage tho and i think this problem was stated on a QD? is it not applicable on the regular n gage?
Is there not a 3 key format like 6600?
Thanks in advance to any answers.... 😊
No 3-key format for the N-Gage's. -> Nokia authorized service center.
I had the W.S.O.D on my N-gage, and I tried everything, the only cure was to send it to Nokia and get it flashed with the updated OS.
I went through the carphone warehouse so took 2 1/2 weeks 😞
but Nokia do it in 2 days if you go directly to them.
I tried the suggestion of taking everything out and leaving it, before I read this and it doesn't work.

Isn't there a way to hard reset or format the N-Gage Classic or QD like what 6600 is capable of??
glay78 wrote:Isn't there a way to hard reset or format the N-Gage Classic or QD like what 6600 is capable of??
The only way to reset the N-Gage (Classic and QD) is via a flasher. As the internal user memory needs to be reset.
Basically the most common cause for WSOD is letting your internal user memory drop below 500K , 1 to 1.5mb is better to have.
tools-manager-[options]-Memory details-Device Memory to check how much memory you have free.
Below 500k, the phone has knowwhere to write temporary files to when removing large files or during the boot up diagnostics.
The most common message before it dies is "memory full", no matter what you do it automatically reboots. Then during the boot process it bangs up against the temp storage problem again and shuts down within 30 seconds.
I am surprised that nobody has exploited the very cheap USB/bus cables now available for the QD (believed to also work with the classic) and written a small app to send the user memory clear init' string to the bus.
I have become aware of an incident with a NGH member and his QD, using firmware 3.05, which run up against that "memory full" comment followed by WSOD. The user plugged in the charger and held down the pencil button during boot and the phone came back with the "memory full" then "Clearing user memory".
Now this may have just been a one off, or may only be associated with that specific 3.05 Firmware in Canada, but it does sound very interesting.
btw the user only had just over 400k left on the user memory and was attempting a full reset when the phone originally crashed.

The only hard reset or should I say factory reset.
*#7370#
Default unlock : 12345
However you have to be able to get into the phone to use it.
We at NGH have been aware of WSOD since the early days of the N-Gage, in fact we coined the WSOD phrase. Anyway I personally have been fighting continually with Nokia to get them to address this failure to include a suitable hard reset.
The N-Gage is based around the 3650, which does have the hard reset and the themes support. Nobody can quite figure out why nokia chose to strip those abilities from the N-Gage version of the Series 60 OS.

There are no such things on the 3650; all that first appeared in the Series 60 2.0 and the 6600. In other words, they were not stripped from the N-Gage, because they never were supported in Series 60 1.2 or the 3650 that preceded the N-Gage in the first place.

Hey the problem is nokia n gage and symbian os... not people using it: symbyan in this case has a serious bug, do you really think that this is a problem with people?? W.S.O.D. is a bug, is derived by very bad programmation, and by negligence, because is a lot of years that this bug exist and no one resolved it.
N-Gage olso have a big problem, because probably it is not possible to flash the memory if the os wont start, in this case why nokia dont make a combination to easy reset the memory?
It is impossible for me to think that in a o.s. if we reach a memory limit we must go every time to a support center and pay for flashing a memory, linux, unix, windows, dos ecc don't have this problem, and I think that symbian shuold start to manage memory in a decent way....now it is a very poor and buggy software.....
This is my opinion, I don't think that W.S.O.D. is a problem with people but with symbian and nokia.
Sorry if my english is not correct....I try to write in a correct english, but I only try 😊
Dazler wrote:Use an application called "Forward" which will store messages directly on the MMC card, which will make this possible ...
google for this application " MsvDriveE " it's a SIS file of 2 kb.
run this app. once, after that, all ur messages (sms, bluetooth msgs) will get stored on ur mmc under E:\system\mail instead of C:\system\mail.
so if ur using an ngage like me, u wont have a problem receiving songs of more than 3.5 mb. ur fone memory will not be full this way.
if u want ur msgs to be read by fone memory once again,
1) switch off ur phone
2) remove the mmc
3) switch on ur fone. now ur msgs will be read by the fone memory
4) insert the mmc back again
if u want the msgs to be read the mmc, run the app. msvdrivee once again.
Secret format keys dont work on the N-Gage.
*#7370# doesnt work for the WSOD because you dont get to the menu for long enough.
Send it to a service centre.
