hi mates a symbian group can make us more colorpalettes when much guyz wants to have it, so we need to attack their mailbox with emails that its an good idea! then they maybe start the project its a cool thing! =) so please write to them a mail but before please post in here that you had send the mail. =) greez mikka the email is:
We need your help! N-gage will maybe get new colorpalettes!
To be more specific, the program you should ask (politely) if they'd consider porting over to Series 60 is called: Magic Themes.
And Magic Themes isn't about simple colour palettes, we're talking REAL themes support here (like you get with the 6600 etc.). So c'mon, if you're interested in theming your N-Gage (QD), starting typing up those e-mails!
Problem is that UIQ has themes as a standard feauture (not open to us the user) so Magic Themes is just like Palette extender it opens the door ... I doubt if it's possible for S60 v1.
You'll probably need an daemon that monitors everything your phone does and replace certain places with an image (a memory consuming and probably very buggy way of doing it ...), now I think about it, that's probably what Wildskinz does ...
And that app would suite us great if it wasn't so buggy ...
(Site sais it now supports newer firmware, maybe I should give it another go ...)
While a noble cause, given that v1.2 doesn;t have underlying support, you either write a new desktop program (see SmartLauncher) or interecept anything. Neither will give you the full 6600 Themes. So write by all means, but don;t be surprised if the reply is "OS can;t do it"

That's not true at all. UIQ 2.0 - running on the P800 has NO native theme support whatsoever. Themes was only introduced later with UIQ 2.1 and the P900.
Nobody thought previously that it would be possible to fully theme the P800 - especially not the top and bottom bar as it is not documented in the SDK, but this company (SymbianWave) did the impossible. They even made it possible with their Magic Themes program to actually use themes made specifically for the P900 (.utz).

Another disbeliever huh?
They made it possible for the P800 (also said to be impossible), so if anyone can do it, these are the guys to talk to!
My P800 does use images for both bars? My N-Gage doesn't use images ...
If the OS uses images then there is a way to change it. That's what I mean with UIQ OS already supporting images for bars.
Just like the 9210 did, it wasn't possible to change, until we did 😛 The OS supported it, someone just had to open the door.
But hey I want to believe !!! 😃
I'm not following you there, Dazler... The P800, when it first came out, there was no way to change the images for the ApPicker and Status bars, and everyone kept saying that it wasn't supported by UIQ, thus it would never happen and we should just forget about it.
The Handy Day app had a colour scheme changer which "unleashed" the hidden colour palettes, just like Palette Extender does for Series 60 (like you mentioned), but that doesn't change much, certainly not the, thought to be, "untouchable" top and bottom bars of the UI.
And it stayed that way for a long long time, more than a year, even after the P900 was released, until Magic Themes came along and changed all of that.
And another thing. As Wildsinz was brought up, that proggy does indeed change (or add?) the image in the bottom bar of the Series 60 v.1.x UI, and also the images in pop up windows (like when you hit Options). So I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for a talented programmer to take it a step further and change all the UI elements, like Magic Themes does for the P800.
I never said it isn't possible 😛
There's nothing impossible, it will just be so much harder.
The only thing I said is that it will be harder then on UIQ.
Because although P800 didn't support themes, the OS did use images for the bars which means it has support for it, it wasn't intended to be changed by anyone but it did had the option ...
The S60 has not as far as I'm aware, and like said before I think Wildskinz uses the daemon memory approach (I'm not sure, will check when I have the time)
But anyway enough about this 😛 It never hurts to ask and I would love to be proven wrong! 😊
So, this wouldn't work for the original n-gage if it was brought out? But why. both series 60 phones. :S

Lets just email these guys that made magic themes and wait for their opinion on these matters. Calling on you all!!!

It would work on both of course, and all other Series 60 1.x phones like 7650, 3650, SX1 etc.
Hi guys,
Sorry for disappointing you, but we don't have any plans to release "Magic Themes for S60". It's a very hard work, writing drawing functions, disassembling the system code, and so on - because this system, like UIQ 2.0, doesn't have a native themes' support. Magic Themes for P800 took a lot of time but it is not so profitable; it was the first and the only...

How many users of these forum would buy the theme support app?
Im sure there is at least 3,000+ who would want it,
Yes, there is certainly more S60 users than P800 users. Not to mention that the P800 is just one phone who is two years old already. S60 phones who would benefit from theme support is Nokia 7650, Nokia 3650, Siemens SX1, Nokia N-Gage and the newly released Nokia N-Gage QD. Which leaves a much greater market for "Magic Themes" than the P800.
I think what's more important is who'd honestly buy it, and who'd warez it. That would be so demoralising. Perhaps another approach. Ask how much to commision the app, set up a Paypal tipjar, and when you reach the moeny, you commision them to make it, and you distro it yourslef?

That's what it comes down to. There's lots of people who want it, and many of them would say "sure, I'll pay for that!" Unfortunately most of those probably won't end up buying it once they find a cracked version out there.
But then, I'm of a mind that themes aren't really necessary, and so I don't honestly care that much 😊 However, from the business side of things it seems very unlikely that they could expect to recoup much on the development costs. The target market for themeing phones is mostly teenage males. As a group they tend to not buy things that are freely available by whatever means (ie warez) and those that are averse to piracy tend to be very selective about what they spend their money on - theming applications probably aren't that high on the list...
