My first post, but not a happy one at the moment! :frown:
I backed up my 6600 last night, in anticipation of a new one today (due to a faulty speaker)
I now come to restore using Nokia Suite (via Bluetooth), and it won't let me because it recognises it as a different device, and hence won't allow a restore.
HELP! I have a ton of settings/stuff that I really don't want to setup again.
I thought this was the whole point of backing up your phone!! Am I wrong?
Is there a 'workaround'?!?
First posts are never happy ones Lol
Im not 100% sure about this one but............
I think uou need to register the new phone with pc suite first, although i cant remember exactly how you do,it cant be too difficult.
I expect you will get a few more replies, from more informed people.
Welcome
😊
I worked out the answer after some frantic searching! Registry Hack and file renaming!
Run Regedit (BE CAREFUL!) and browse to the following Key (this is what it is on mine, the SID might be different on yours - do a search for "Nokia 6600" to be sure:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2052111302-706699826-725345543-1008\Software\Nokia\PCSuiteForNokia6600\EPOCDevices\Nokia 6600
Amend the UID to that of your new phone (which can be found by running Nokia Suite and letting it detect your new device, and then putting in a new name such as "New Nokia" or something similar. Then browse to c:\nokia\ and you will see a newly created .cap file, and that number will need to be exchanged for the number in the registry key).
Shut down Nokia Suite
Re-run regedit and remove the whole key and its sub-entries:
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2052111302-706699826-725345543-1008\Software\Nokia\PCSuiteForNokia6600\EPOCDevices\New Nokia (or whatever you called it).
Rename both the .cap files in the c:\nokia directory to .old or something.
Restart Nokia Suite and HEY PRESTO! 😊 The restore button is available again using the old device name.
Once you've hit restore, then it might tell you a file already exists - just click "Yes to all" to overwrite files (NOTE: This is on the basis you want to do a complete restore over the top of a factory default phone!!)
Hope this info helps someone! 😃
Was the flux capacitor undamaged after all that???????????
😊
Yep, the Doc is a very happy man! 😃
Few things to note:
1. Strangely the clock doesn't change back to what it was before (e.g. stays on analogue, even though previous backup setting was digital)
2. My theme wasn't enabled, it was set to default
3. Opera is screwed (due to IMEI number being different). Will need to contact them now - damn it!
Haven't found any other anomolies as yet!
Thanks for listening to my drivel! 😉
Cheers mate.
It was a breath of fresh air. 😃
