I know that Nokia are not supporting Windows ME with the Data Suite for the 7610 or the cable. I am determined not to (and too skint to) upgrade to Windows XP, so does anyone know how the 7610's Phone Book & Calendar can be synchronised with a Desktop PC application, such as (but not neccessarilly) MS Outlook 2000?
I am connecting my 7610 to my PC via a Blue Monkey Bluetooth USB Dongle from Expansys. This works very well (I can easilly exchange any sort of file between my phone and PC), once youve followed the instructions at Jon's Bluetooth Guide which installs WIDCOMM 1.4.3, and provides a My Bluetooth Places folder inside My Computer. Hidden in here is an icon tantalisingly named My PIM Synchronisation, which includes all the settings youd expect for synchronising MS Outlook with a bluetooth device. And of course, the 7610 has an application called Sync, which seems to enable PIM synchronisation via Bluetooth. So, you'd think that perhaps there'd be a way of getting these two things communicating to achieve synchronisation. Anyone any ideas?
The only other solutions I have found is Oxygen Phone Manager. Nice idea, but I find it very unstable. I've not managed to use it for long enough without the Blue Screen Of Death to see weather it does a proper synchronisation.
Thanks & regards

I don't have an answer, but am looking for one (have the same problem). Posting a response when you have found one would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sorry, but I gave up.
[rant]
I tried contacting Nokia about the problem thru their web-feedback form, but all I got was an error message.
In the end I decided to sync it with my work PC instead, because that runs Windows XP and MS Outlook... but it's almost useless anyway becayse you can't do a custom mapping of address book fields, and the default mapping is just silly. The notes and the calendar synchronise okay, though.
I also decided to finally ditch my home (Windows ME) PC and get something decent, and my research has led me to decide that a Mac is the best way to go... despite that fact that OSX can't sync with the 7610 either. At least I have some faith in Apple that they might eventually sort the problem, else, I'm just going to have to buy a new phone.
If Nokia actually supplied some sensible software with their handsets, then we might stand half a chance of using them for the intended purposes. Cheers Nokia, you're totally useless.

I had a problem submitting questions using that "Ask Nokia" form too. I think it was because the text of my submission was too long. I split it into several submissions of smaller questions and they were accepted.
Not that it matters to you if you go for a Mac, but one of my questions was about PC Suite and the reply I received from Club Nokia Careline mentioned that a new version is due out soon. Didn't say what the changes are though.
I agree that the lack of field mapping for contacts (in 6.4.8) is very frustrating. I'd also like a filter (e.g. Category='sync with phone'😉 because not all my Outlook contacts need to go to my phone.

Windows ME? Isn't that some kind of self-torture device? 😊 😊 You're just gonna drive yourself batty using Win ME in this day and age. In fact Microsoft should be liable to pay punitive damages TO YOU, just for having to use that thing. 😊
If its just money, that's the issue why you cant upgrade, PM me and send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and I'll send you a copy of Win XP. If have a thing for old OS's I even have Win 2000 Pro instead - very nice and stable. 😊
skagen, just to be sure, I hope that you're offering to donate an original and legal Windows XP CD and license (and not just an illegal copy).
haha! i dont think he'd be offering an original one.. lol in my country illegal ones are for 50cents each/ half a dollar! cool eh?

Hi Skagen... thanks for the kind offer and for your concern for my mental health. 😊
The reason I didn't want to upgrade to XP was because my current machine probably wouldn't be able to take it... & I had better things to spend my time & money on than a new PC.
But it's all academic now since I now own a Mac anyway... see above.

Interestingly, right now there is a free service which allows contact and calendar synchronization, www.mobical.net. You will need GRPS/WAP on your phone, and contacts/calendar can be imported via vCard 1.2 and vCal 1.0 respectively. This may be a good option if you're using a Mac and hence cannot use PC Suite. Note that we have not tried it. (Add a comment if you have.)Alternatively, SmartvCard (USD 6.95) provides on-phone import and export of vCards: Simply export in the vCard format from the OS X address book.
