Does the Nokia 6260 support stereo or Mono mp3 sound?
Several sources claim it only got mono mp3 sound,
others claim it's stereo mp3 sound.
And i've called Nokia, and they didn't know for sure.
Is there anybody over here that know's it for sure, or can prove it's eighter mono or stereo? :con?
Most likely stereo. You can see here that the 6260 supports several stereo headsets.
MP3 player is also listed as a feature under Phone Features here. It wouldn't make much sense listing that feature if it wasn't usable (i.e. MONO playback).
Ok, thanxs.
I'm moderator on the Mobile-review forum and there are about 5 threads and about 70 posts about the 6260 is mono or stereo. There is one guy thinking it's only mono. And i'm thinking, as wel as others, that it's stereo. So...
I just wanna to clear this out, but no one know's the awnser for sure.
Since most of the other Nokia series 60 handsets are mono for Mp3 playback - I wouldnt go assuming that the 6260 is stereo if I were you....
ITS MONO and that will put a end to this mono/stereo question
Firstly check out this link http://my-symbian.com/7650/intro_6260.php
Now I'll tell you why I, even without this link, am so sure that Nokia 6260 has stereo sound.
When I "thoroughly" checked out web site www.nokia.fi, nokia's finnish site, I never found Nokia mentioning that a phone had mp3 player if it didn't have stereo sound, but they didn't often mention that a phone had stereo sound although it had.
Go ahead and check it out... if you understand finnish =)
I have the answer. This said an Symbiancrack on this Question :
"The 6260, just like e.g. the N-Gage, has two different DAC chips. One of them is dedicated to the Symbian OS (the mono one) and the other one is dedicated to the intregated FM Radio/MP3 player (the stereo one).
From Symbian OS it's only possible to access the mono DAC through the audio API for audio playback.
All FM Radio/MP3 playing is done by the dedicated chip which you cannot access from the Symbian audio API unless you are able to get your hands on the specific DAC's hardware specs and write a Symbian device driver."
What that mean? Help me to understand that!

Some clearer information :
"Oke, I'll try to explain better (clearer, I hope)
There are two audio chips inside your 6260. One audio chip is used by Symbian OS, like on all other Symbian OS devices that support audio, and is only capable of playing back 16bit mono digital audio (16Khz? I'm not sure).
The other audio chip inside your 6260 is a FM radio receiver/processing chip. The only thing this chip can do is receive FM radio frequencies en process them so you can listen to the radio.
Since the FM radio chip doesn't need your phones CPU to playback audio (It does all the stuff by it's self, meaning it is dedicated), this chip can use 44Khz stereo playback.
You can't use the FM radio chip to playback an audio stream generated by Symbian OS. The chip doesn't know how to process this information. So Symbian OS needs another chip to playback digital audio (the first chip I talked about).
I hope this make things a bit clearer... "

In essence, the 6260 has stereo sound output for FM radio and single channel audio output for the music player + support for dual earpiece stereo headsets like the HDS-3.
Tested and verified with actual device (the unit I have seems to play the left channel through both earpieces when it is playing a stereo MP3 track).
Really? STILL no stereo mp3? Too bad 🙄
Really. And, for completeness' sake, artekk's answers are quotes from answers he received on NewLC: http://forum.newlc.com/viewtopic.php?t=3321
Why did nokia update the realplayer in 6260 to play mp3 format, but didn't enable stereo sound? Tell me that...!
I have checked this also in a real phone. Most Nokias with radio built in use a Philips chip (the TEA5767) which contain an FM receiver with analog stereo decoder. They have used this chip before in series 40 phones such as the 3200 and 3300. The only thing the 6260 has is a stereo headphones amplifier and an analog mixer digitally controled by the Symbian Os that feeds to the audio amplifier either the mono DAC used for voice coding and Symbian applications or the FM radio. They have cheated all of us that bought the phone assuming that it plays MP3 files in stereo. They carefully omit the detail wether it plays audio files in stereo or mono, only claim that the RADIO is stereo.
All series 60 are mono
Not all. The N-Gage (original) is stereo. The 6630 is stereo. The Sendo X is stereo. The Siemens SX is stereo.

Cheated?? really? I beg to differ. If they didnt state implicitly that it is MP3 Stereo, then you cant claim they made you think it is. From a legal standpoint, there isnt much of a case.
Also, really, people should do research on these things. Befor you buy, find out about it in depth. Dont jump to conclusions without any info to back it up.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!
really i am sad
i m not satisfied in that mobile and i prefer to have sony-ericsson p910i
slightly higher in price
but much much more interactive that this 6260
but finally i wanna say something
without asking if it is stereo or mono
simply
play a stereo song
u will find that ths sound is bad and it is not played as it must be played
peice of cake isnt it?!
this are all rumours, nothing else...
It plays mp3 in stereo.
Definitly!!!
We check it out with spezial files, where we could here clearly that it play stereo.
so guys relax your mind.... :heeeellll
Huh?? :con? You confused me even more. It IS mono, isn't it?? :con?
It most definitely does not play MP3's in stereo! You can easily verify it by making a stereo MP3 file with clearly different content for the left & right channels. Use, e.g., Audacity (http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/) to make such file and hear for yourself.
