File Transfer engine operation failed

Right i've searched and found nothing. Maybe i'm being dense but I can get rid of my problem. I can connect fine to my phone, i can send files as messages to it via the windows send to -> bluetooth -> Dave's Phone option. but everytime i connect with PC Suite i get this message:

Now i've reformatted the phone as explained in this forum, reinstalled PC Suite, uninstalled PC Suite - ran the offical registry cleaner - deleted all left behind directories - installed it again. But i just can't get the thing to transfer. I can transfer things to my phone through windows. But i'd like the ability to use the PC suite file converters. I'm just stuck now.

The other thing i didn't meantion was that i've been accepting the default name since i re-installed (Nokia 6600) within PC Suite, but as u can see from the screenshot, it's generated a gibberish name. If I look in devices in PC Suite it shows 2 phones, the gibberish name and Nokia 6600. It seems to connect under this false name. But then again if i look on Change Device from the taskbar, i only get the Nokia 6600 - Connected one. I don't understand :/

Does pcsuite actually connect to phone ?

Have you the latest version of PCSuite?

Have you the latest btooth drivers?

all I know that may/maynot help

Worked ok, i don't mean that. Doh. Did exactly the same thing, the upgrade worked ok.

Below are answers I found for you - they posted EXACT SAME ERROR MESSAGE (hope they help)
Good day,

Finally my Pc Suite is working! I don't know what's went wrong.

I ran my Pc Suite as offline yesterday and then i turned on my 3650 infrared connection.
The operation seems work fine!

I have no reason to say but the important thing is MY pc suite is back in action now.
,

I used to have problems like that;

try:
1. Do not switch user in XP or allow the login screen to display (once you've 'quick switched' it stuffs up IR transfers)
2. Do not run anything on the phone (try closing all apps)
3. Disable photograph transfer on Windows

Ok now, I found your post as I had EXACTLY the same problem with my nokia 6600. Using PC suite for the 6600 version 1.1.0 mine kept listing my phone as strange characters and kept coming up file transfer engine failed. My pc however would send files by bluetooth. On the PC suite open it up offline, i turned the bluetooth off on the phone to stop any connection being made. i then opened pc suite - clicked on the control panel icon (second one down on the left) - and then double clicked on device manager. It showed me two devices listed the 1st being the strange characters and the second being nokia 6600. I highlighted the strange character one and then clicked on "remove details of selected device" and this removed it leaving only the nokia 6600. I then closed pc suite down, re-enabled bluetooth on the phone, right clicked on the mrouter symbol in the icon tray (two grey plugs) and clicked coonnect with device. Once this had established a connection i restarted pc suite and bingo - the device with the strange characters had gone leaving only the nokia 6600 and the file manager software worked fine. I have been trawling the net for weeks trying to resolve this problem and now i have sorted it out i thought of your post in this forum and thought you might try this. I was very close to getting rid of the nokia phone for another make cause i was so peeved by this problem !!! hope this helps

Mattyboyturbo, thanks for the solution ! I too had the same problem. I tried what you suggested. But when i select the strange character name and clicked "remove details", it sure did give me a pop-up which said this will remove all trails of this device etc. and when I clicked on OK thereon, nothing happenned !!! It just came back to the control panel window with the same 2 listings :icon13:

Anybody overcame this ?

One more thing is sometimes, it says the "<the junk character set> device is use. cannot remove details. But my phone was offline! Am really stumped.

Please help

Guys .. had found the fix for this a while back !! I was so excited, thought I should share it with you all. It involves deleting a specific registry entry. Here it is :

1. Go to Start Menu --> Run
2. Type: regedit - the registry editor opens
3. Locate: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nokia\PCSuiteForNokia6600\EPOCDevices
4. In this tree structure to the left of your screen, you will find the entry with the strange, junk characters.
5. Select this entry (folder), right click and chose 'Delete'
6. Now open your PC Suite for Nokia 6600 and lo! the strange character has disappeared.

Enjoy. God bless.
