sms in sent box show as number on p900

If I use "create sms" to send a text message the message is stored in my sent box under the phone number rather than the contact name.
My Inbox correctly shows incoming texts from numbers in my contact list under the contact name. If I send a text via the mobile number in the contacts list then it does appear in the sent box under the contact name.
Does anyone have a solution?

:con?

This can be the case with mismatching internationalisation

e.g. the number is stored as 07xxx XxXxXx in your contact but the SMS was sent to +447xxx XxXxXx - or the other way around

Instead of using 'create message' go through your contacts and send message from there, then in your sent folder it will have the name of the contact instead of the number 🙄 . If you use a program like vito quick contacts you can get through your contacts a bit quicker too

Nic - I assume you mean if I type the number, but I use the contacts list when using "create sms". (It makes no difference whether the number is stored starting 07 rather than +447.)
Puddytat purr - I've been using my contacts list as you suggest, but it feels like going the long way round. A friend has the same phone but has no problems using "create sms".
Thanks anyway.

I assume it's not a settings issue as there is no problem with texts received. Technology can be so frustrating!!

Nic - You helped me sort the problem. I found that it did work for an 07 number - the reason being that I had inserted a space after the +44 on most numbers. The software obviously doesn't recognise spaces when attributing names to numbers. Thanks

seanmca,

sounds like the problem I had at one point. SMS from a friend stayed as a number rather than name as my contact book stated. Maybe it was a space rather than 44/0 differences in mine too - I just copied the number from the SMS over the one in my contact and it all sorted itself out at the time!

Do you synch with Outlook? If so, Outlook seems to reformat all numbers in international format by inserting a space. It's a hugely annoying "feature".

Bassey, I do synchronise with Outlook which explains why the spaces are there. Still doesn't explain why the P900 recognises the number in the Inbox but not in Sent messages. It's nice of Microsoft to force you to have the space and then Sony to only half recognise it!

mmmm...i fine the 900s grip on number/name relationships a bit slack. if i select someones number from my phone book, i expect that name to show in the sms header, not the number!

and to add to the confusion....

in FC mode, new sms, add person, but they have 2 mobiles, so it displays them, but doesnt tell you which one is which! (as in home mob and work mob) It does show this in FO mode, but if you try and flip open while in the SMS software it kicks you out to the front screen! 😞 pants!

If I open the flip whilst in SMS then it stays in SMS. Same with all applications. Do you have some software that is handling the flip open event and buggerising it for you?

As usual, you can disable this so that the numbers are stored in Outlook as you type or edit them.

Excellent news. Do you know where this option is in Outlook? I've looked through but can't find it.
