I'm concerned that the original mp3 player may be resampling audio tracks on the fly. I don't think it does but when I installed oggplayer it said my phone was only capable of playing audio in mono and up to 16khz. Does that mean if I re-encode my mp3s in 16khz I will get the same end result?

These two apps are separate from the rest of the system - they have their dedicated chips in the hardware. Unlike other phones like the Siemens SX1 and P800/P900 etc. which have stereo sound output implemented into the system. Like I mentioned earlier, an easy way to check this is by installing a 3rd party music player on the original - which, unlike the default Music player app, will only give you 16kHz MONO output.

Thank you for the very concise reply. I have another question: which formats other than mp3 and aac does the pre-installed music player playback and which is most faithful to wav? Thank you.
