This is getting frustrating, the only reason i bought the 7650 is that the P800 was'nt available, and now I'm lookin' for a new phone (e.g P800) and It's still not there! C'MON SONY ERICSSON!!

So i just wanted everybody to throw all rumors and gossips here, 😃 i like rumors, they tend to make me feel better 😊

Someone posted that the P800 is gonna be for 450 GP, is that true?
And the P800 better catch video!!! It'll be a shame if not...
😃

your best off waiting for some decent 3G phones for video functionality. Lets face it the P800 is a lemon, prepare to be a Delorian owner of the mobile phone world.

HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY BABY LIKE THAT!!!!

I like Delorians anyway!

http://www.clove.co.uk have it for 450 + vat, so really 530. all i know is its going to be out before christmas. have pre-orded mine. just got to wait now.....

....no i can't! i'm going to explode!!

Whatdoya mean by "wait"? you have read the subject..

AHHHHHHHHHHH!
OKAY, just some q's for the wise mobile elders:

If i get a Bluetooth Pocket Drive, can i acces info and stuff (play games and music) without transferring them to my phone? just navigating and playing?

What about if i hook up a USB drive to it, (which doesnt seem that its gonna work) well forget it..

Are they make any bigger memory stick DUOs? any bigger than 64MB perhaps?

Well now to cash in da dough!

According to latest news at http://www.p800.it/le_news.htm and my understanding of Italian P800 is expected in Italy in november.

I have looked at the "portable" BT drive option for the 7650, and without a seprate program that would constantly "talk" to the hardrive this isn't possible.

Current file managers only recognise your phones drives C/D/Z, if you could get a program that could search for Bluetooth drives then it "could" work.

But it will have it's drawbacks like Battey power (Or lack of it), your limited to the speed of bluetooth and what happens if you loose connection halfway through your favorite song 😮

😞 On a mail to SE last week, they told me I've to wait at least till end of november.

Ahh go out and buy yourself a real pocket PC and stop messing around with sub-standard products

Or you could get yourself a PDA 😛

If the P800 was going to be a lemon it would probably have been released already, if the delay is for technical reasons at least it suggest that SE are working to get it right - it is entirely possible that the delays are not because of faults with the phone per-say, manufacturing issues could be to blame. I understand that press review devices are likely to be available early November.

I was really excited about the P800 when I saw the spec for it earlier this year but all these delays have made me appathetic. I've gone from a dead cert purchaser to a dead cert non-purchaser cos of all these delays which you know are gonna continue past the end of october.

The P800 just doesn't wow me anymore. SE missed the moment when this piece of technology was miles ahead, it'll now just be another smart phone with a camera by the time it gets released.

We might well see some stockholders using the p800 to bang the nails into the SE coffin in the near future.

I'm with you all the way Mother. If it ain't out in early Nov, I'm spending the money on somethings else and my next phone will be 3G. Sorry SonyEricsson, but you must learn to treat your customers with respect (they haven't even officially announced a delay yet!!!)

E had have always problems with production and that is the case with p800 now + propably serious unstabilty in hw-platform. It is not business to manufacture phone if 50% goes straight ahead to recycling bin. I don't except that phone to mass market before next summer. Some limited amount maybe Q1 next year.

I have been nuts on P800 when I heard of it. Now I even don't see as such a big problem buying a decent PDA - maybe even without GSM functionality and will just keep my good old Siemens S35 for plain phone talking and PDA for all the other things. When it's cold (like now) I always have a spare pocket to carry one more gizmo with me.

If P800 is not out way before Christmas, if it really costs somewhere around 1000 + then SE doesn't even have to bother to market it. In january 2003 or later it will be just one of the many. We don't really need that.

Jimbo

p.s.: I must say that we have some pretty old (4 1/2 years) SONY GSM here and it still works perfectly - most other and newer phones already died or had problems - not SONY. At least I hope japs will have the production in their hands.

Man, you guys are right. The P800 fire is all down to ashes now, i don't see anyone excited about them anymore, even i already converted to being a Pocket PC with GSM function person, as i can have movies on the go with a 1Gb microdrive, and forget the phrase "i'm outta memory!"

SE diss-apointed me, they shoulda released it while it was still hot. Not Nokia's future phones are bound to blow the market unless the P800 thinks of decent pricing!!!

Then there's one more point we have to take into account.
We are some kind of nuts waiting for the new high tech toy. So we are dissapointed of so much waiting. Great many future users didn't even hear about P800 so they'll thankfully accept it as a great new toy.

uh-huh, i see. We must be the Mobile Media, the Mafia of mobile business, all we need is black suits and some ultimate-integrated laser gun-flashing memory eraser-(this could go on forever 😃)tri band mobile phones to go with it 😃

I think the media does have an impact, but are there any P800 commercials out there? I for one don't open the T.V anymore, i spend all my time on this and other forums on my adventure of mobile knowledge 😃 come to think of it i'm kinda like a living commercial for sony ericsson, but not anymore! Mu-Hahahahhaahh!!!

Well we must understand something here. SE have 2 options :

- put a phone on the market that will be widely returned because of bad software stability
or
- Wait, work hard and maybe miss holiday sales but p800 gonna be THE Smartphone everyone expects.

SE is not holding on their product for fun nor for profit. They know that if they do not go out with their p800 before xmas they will loose marketshare over Nokia.

But on which side are we on!!! Security and stability over marketing and profit. I work in the mobile industry and I'm really impressed with SE strategy. Courageous but dangerous. From what I heard marketing ppl over SE are willing to put p800 on the market NOW and developers are against it.

So guys, let's be patient and maybe that when our p800 will be out we will have to close this forum because there would be no bugs to report... 😉 (just kiddin)

Cizake

Sad story for SE that they haven't been able to sort themselves out with a product that was announced one year ago and isn't even on the market yet.

Great ho-ha on their Sony games, Men In Black and by the time it is actually released, it's probably an updated MIB 3 !

To be honest, P800 is most likely going to be released after Nokia's smartphone, due out in Q1 2003.

Prices of T68i has dropped like a stone over the last few days, indicating an imminent launch of T300 at least...wonder how it's going to sell though...

There is however another, much brighter side to this whole delay issue of the P800.

Once released, we'll be the very proud owners of the first MIIIB game.

Yes, MIB 3.

da*n.

I also would have prefered to se the p800 a bit sooner, but i'm glad theyre not releasing it before they're sure everything is ok. can you imagin the impact it would have it the p800 would be introduced with lots of media attention and then 1 by 1 the phones would have to be sent back with problems. It's the best thing they can do for know. Look at nokia on average they also show theyre mobiles online at least a year in advance.

anyway if you really like the phone you'll wait and other ways don't nag about it buy something else, nowbody is forcing you to buy it you know.

Exactly. All these bad mouthing about Sony Ericsson's delay is not doing good to either SE or yourself. The general public out there is not thinking anything bad about the delay at all. If there's a faction that's slandering SE it's us, who keep complaining about the delay. They don't owe it to us to deliver the product on time more than they owe it to us to deliver a good solid working knock out product. Why are you so anxious over the delay? Probably because you want it a lot. Have a bit of patience.

The grandmother's saying "good things come to those who wait" does not get carried over generations and generations just because it sounds good.

Cheers

Hi chaps,

Just saw this post over at the Yahoo forums for the P800 (yes, I'm also trying to keep a daily watch on the availability!!), looks like Carphone Warehouse has changed their date to "early 2003" but I cannot get onto their website to confirm:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sonyericssonp800/message/172

My 8890 is dying a slow death (the screen has all but disappeared unless I press like a madman around the casing...) and I've been pinning my hopes on the P800.

Regards,

Lonnie

You are missing a point here! P800 is not delayed becasue of a few minor bugs!!! the P800 has serious problems with the Symbian OS! Do you remeber when they first found out about the problem with the keyboard stalling the phone? Have you ever heared them solving that?

Something you maybe never heard is that multitasking doesnot really work! When running lots of progs at the same time the phone stalls! The phone freezer with no reason most of the times durring a call!

So SE dont really have a choice, they surely dont think about consumers, nombody does. They dont put it on the market becasue of them not becasue of you!

😊

I'm not hassling SE I'm just stating the fact that they've missed a large chunk of their market now. I really dont care if the fail or go on to be the biggest mobile phone manufacturer, I needed a new phone in July I waited til early october, git fed up and brought something else.

The fact of the matter is that the P800 was a ground breaking revolutionary phone back in July but by the time it gets released in January it will have a lot of competition and because it'll have been floating around for 9 months the competition will look more up to date.

The P800 is never going to appeal to a mass market, it appeals to geeks like us who have nothing better to do than surf the internet to find expensive geeky toys to spend their wages on. The P800 is losing this appeal rapidly as other manufacturers catch up.

all i can think of now is the Fujitsu Siemens pocket loox 😊 Its pretty cool, well, except for its sheer bulk, but its not that big itself, kinda thin, only the add-on GSM makes it fatter (anways, this is not the place to talk about it here 😃) I think if people want ultra perfect specification, like alotta memory and movies and stuff, they should just buy what can actually "take on" this stuff. Buy a 2.4 GHz pc, and cram it in the back of your car :P Or just buy a phone for diallin recieving and doing meaningful tasks that suits its OS and does'nt give you a headache if it doesnt work. Or make a crossover! A pc and a phone crossover, guess thats what its all leading to, but phone 2 pda's are 70% phone and the rest pda, but pda 2 phones are fifty-fifty, it can do all the pda stuff, AND do all the phone stuff, no exceptions, vibrations melodies you name it. BUt since microsoft is all but 666 i doubt anybody will get it!

Sorry im off topic, its whats on my mind 😃

I bought a pocket Loox and I haven't been dissapointed. It is too bulky to carry around but so's a p800. if you get a bluetooth phone like the t68i then you can have both with you when it's practical (ie. work) and just the phone when it's not (ie. the Pub).

After considering it for a while (and us potential p800 owners have had a while and some) I decided that I didn't want to cart a 500 PDA/Phone around everywhere cos I kick myself when i broke it and if you take it out with you to clubs and pubs it will get broken.

You just dont need PDA functionality on a night out on the town and even if you did would anyone have the guts to get it out to look a map outside somewhere like Brixton tube for example? What you really need is a phone that can take some abuse and an A-Z.

With the wait for P800 streching much too long now I begin to ponder the option of buying a LOOX as soon as its GPRS module is released...
The thing is, the combo I imagine as ideal for me is an advanced BT-enabled smartphone (some multimedia and html-web browsing capabilities) that I always carry with me paired with a BT-enabled VGA-thumboard-PDA for mass storage of pictures (taken with the smartphone or BT-digital-still/video camera) MPEG4 and MP3 files, BT-GPS navigation, VGA web browsing, emailing.
The LOOX is to big/heavy (with the GRPS module) to take the role off carry-always-smartphone, and underspecked for the roles off VGA html-web browser, VGA GPS navigation screen & thumboard email typing.
I still think that I will wait for P800 + BSquare VGA PDA (or Zaurus 2003)
