Unused Appliocations & Contacts Display??

8 replies · 2,480 views · Started 29 September 2004

When I go to application manager in my 6600 its shows me a lot off aplications like extermeboxing, Qword, Qimaging , Worldmate SE, Worldmate, Wayfinder, WayfinderRESSv, WayfinderResIt, WayfnderRESFR, WayfinderRES ER, etc, & Slovode, Italina-English, German to English etc etc.

When I check details its says insatlled on memory card, so I removed few of them but my memory card capacity doesnt increase at all after removing them. Also phone memory remains intact.

Also when I check with SeleQ or handyfile I couldnt find any folder for these applications on Memory card, when I search also nothing shows.

I want to know where are these applications intalled excatly? & how can I delete them Permanently. do deleting them will harm my phone???

Also there is a orange box shoing next to each application on left side, but for Xtremeboxing the colour of box is blue???

Secondly I like to know how can I do the setting of Contacts to display phone no. & name as we used to do in series 40 phones. Here it only shows namelist of the conatcts. no phone no., every time you have to entered into a contacts detail to view the no.

Please help

Thnx in advance

The blue icon means it's a .jar file (typically a Java game), and orange = .sis file.
The applications you mentioned are the 'Try & Buy' ones that are pre-installed on the MMC. The path to find them with a file browser is E>System>Apps, but some will also contain libs, help, bif files etc. Read through the booklet that came with the phone to decide whether or not you want to keep them before attempting to delete them.
I only use Opera from the 'free' software, but you might find some of the others useful enough to consider buying.
If you are going to delete them, do it from Manager first, and then check the directories I mentioned above to make sure they've been comletely removed.

Thats a good point about removing the apps using manager, you should definately do that, but before that,i would make a note of all the apps currently installed on the mmc and then, remove with 'manager'. After this format the mmc in the phone and read up at the respective web sites about all the apps you just removed, and decide which (if any) you want, they can then be downloaded in the shop and you can start with a 'Fresh' mmc.

Make sure you copy any contacts or gallery files etc into the phone memory or pc first. 😃

Thnx for your help.

But why no Icons for the said applications are showing in the menu, even my appplication manager displays OPERA also, but there is no icon for this too, even I check E:system>app> but there is no folder for these applications. when i search also I couldnt find these aplications. But in applications manger all these applications are showing & says installed on MMC.

Why this is happening any Idea sir??

& what about my question for Contacts display any help regarding that??

Thanx in advance.

The reason for this might be that you deleted the applications using SeleQ (or similar) BEFORE using Manager.
My Manager still tells me I have several themes installed on my MMC, despite the fact that I removed them using FExplorer.
I can only assume the reason for this is that the Installation Log thinks that they are still on the MMC because they weren't removed using Manager. If I now select one of these themes for deletion using Manager, a DIFFERENT theme is removed from the MMC, and so everything gets kinda out of hand.
This would also account for there being no icon for the app in your Menu (ie, the App is gone, and it's only your log telling you otherwise). Unless of course they're tucked away in the 'Try & Buy' folder (in which case, I've written all this for nothing 🙄 ).
As for the detailed contacts information being available in the overview, as far as I know, what you see is what you get, but someone else may have the answer you seek.

Basically the real point to note is always try uninstalling first as this reverses the script that was used during installation. Try not to delete using a file manager unless you really know what you are doing, if you delete application files using a file manager but leave the uninstall script the manager application will still think that they are there.
also if you cancel an installation doesn't the file reamin in a tempory space on the phone and show as a different icon in manager waiting to be fully installed? I know it used to on my 7650 but have not tried this yet with my 6600.

But in my case I am able to remove all these applicationa via application manager, & none other applications are getting affected. for instance its shows OPERA 932 bytes so when I used remove option from application manager it removed the opera from list succesfully. Only I had one problem when I removed Slovode (i think its a dictionary) my phone's writting ability of letters (a,b,c etc) disabled only numericals were working, means If I wanna write a text I cant do it I can only write numbers. So I formatted my phone & it started working agian.

Still no one is able to answer me abt Contact's view. But thnx a lot for ur help.

SlovoEd is a translation program. Your phone's dictionary is T9, which is safely tucked away in your read-only files, and is completely independent of SlovoEd.
To switch between numbers and letters when you're writing (ie, a text message), use the little pencil key on your phone. This will bring up your dictionary options, and is much kinder to your 6600 than a format 😊

As far as I know there s no way to change the contacts list to the way you want.

And I have found that since I switched to series 60 phones, I have no need for it to appear like that, I just scroll down and press the call key and it calls the default number, if I don't have a default set it will ask which of the numbers stored for that contact that I want, pretty reasonable I think 😊
