Hi everyone,

actually my 8 month old 6600 (from china) doesnt have problems with this, but my sister recently bought a unit (from finland) and i really cant find a way to solve the problem.

In my phone, the TO: field in the write messages is asking for the NAME of the recipient. However, in my sister's phone, the TO: field is asking for the NUMBER of the recipient. She has to change the option to Alpha mode for her to input the name of the recipient.

How do i permanently set the TO field to ask for the NAME of the recipient instead of the number?

please help me. i cant find the answers in the manual. is it because my phone came from china and hers came from finland?

Your phone's "to" filed asks for Name because it uses firmware 3.42.1,and your sister's phone asks for Number, cause it uses firmware 4.09.1.You can't chage this.

If this is true that is a stupid update, very very stupid. I am still on 3.4x can someone else confirm this?

yes, please confirm. 😞

ive been trying everything to set it to Name instead of number. i still cant figure it out.

i think i have to configure something, i just dont know where.

As Bulgaria said, more or less. When the 6600 shipped, the default for the To: field was text mode, "abc", and previous Series 60 phones all defaulted to number mode, "123". In 4.09 Nokia changed the behaviour "back" to be like all the others before (and since).

There's nothing a user can do (except ask a Nokia service center to flash the phone with an old 6600 firmware release).

This is unfortunate, since I really liked the 6600 original behaviour myself, too (only maybe 1 in every 100 messages I send is to a number & everybody else is in my address book, so the text mode as a defaut was much more convenient).

If you now want the same behaviour, do a long press of the '#' key in the To: field and it switches from "123" mode to "abc".

Wht have said N/A i do on my 7610.
when i was using 6600 frist version i was soo addict that i want this function back in 7610 and i use # for this and i am satisfied.
its being very usefull to me just put the name and the message will go.
