When creating a theme,its always best to avoid using an image in this area anyway as seeing the day/date is highly important in my opinion,also anyone switching wallpapers between themes will have the head at the top,then the wallpaper,and maybe the legs in the control area Lol.
The 176x144 wallpaper size is plenty of room to show off a good theme with all the individual areas neatly formed to go with it,otherwise it all boils down to yet another theme,with a 176x208 picture and thats not really what themes are meant to be about!
