P900 Contacts Not restored following firmware update

5 replies · 2,698 views · Started 09 October 2004

Hi, I have just updated my P900 (Orange) firmware today from Org. CXC 162021 R1C01 to CXC162021 R5B02. The update worked fine - however when I restored my files, I found that I had lost my all my contacts.

The only contacts that are shown are the ones Orange installed.

I make weekly backups and all fail to restore my contacts.

Can any help - I assumed that the backup saved the contact details.

Thanks

Steve.

PS I don't use the Sync settings or outlook

Apparantly, there is a bug whereby the contacts sometimes don't get restored. I only found out about this myself quite recently (the hard way) but, thankfully, I do synch so it wasn't too much of a problem.

Basically, a good rule of thumb seems to be that the PC Suite is a pile of sh*te and should not be relied upon for anything!

bugger me! thats not good news. im just about to upgrade to the latest orange approved f/w too 😮

well, ive just done an impromptu test! attempted to synch contacts with outlook as extra backup, and it buggered em all up. so had to use restore anyway!! fortunately it did work for me. 😊

I have had this b4 as well.
I did another restore and the contacts came though the 2nd time.
What has also happened to me once is that the contacts in the backup where missing.

Someone wrote a way of how to get around this, i will do a search on the net and see if i can find the link again.
Some how you can edit the phone with some software while its booting up. or somrthing like that.
Will post the link here if i find it.

Hi, thanks for the comments - another board has reported similar problems following an update of the firmware.

I've decided to make regular backups of my contacts by using the send contacts folder as email option. Once the email is created I save it as a draft in my mail box.

The vcard can then be used to restore contacts, should the PC suite fail to restore contacts following a further firmware upgrade.
