Hello

I need some thoughts on what to buy here... I need basic PDA functionality, but love the idea of the mini-msoffice that comes with the Sony. Having said that, the 3 network is due to be offering great deals till Xmas with the new Motorola. But, more importantly, I want to be able to sync with a Mac OSX using USB or Bluetooth, and also store data files that come in .txt form from a handheld scanner (CPen 800C) using IR/serial link to the PDA, (and then subsequently into my Mac).

What say you??

If u need a pda functionality then u should go for the p-910.
with p-910 u surely able yo sync with mac osx.
u should go for p-910 its suits your need best.
my vote goes to p-910.
wht u say.

OK so after looking them both over here is the bottom line, or a bunch of lines with run on sentences. IF you find 3g or Umts where you live and want this speed advantage say on the phone or via Bluetooth modem then go for the a1000.

As for the camera, which is one of the other majors differences between the a1000 and the p910, both the 1.3 mp camera on the a1000 or the VGA camera on the P910 will not and probably should not be used as prints they might say that 1.3 is suitable, but in reality it is not, unless you want a small picture. Secondly, the real advantage of the camera on either phone is to be able to take a picture of a friend or something notable then view it back on your phone, like an iPod photo; show your friends your dog on your phone or by MMS, and if you live in America good luck finding your friends having this service on their phone, both camera are suffice for viewing on the cell phones screen.

Unfortunately for the Americans (me included) no one seems to understand the extend to which a cell phone can be used and in my opinion this might take another 6 months before a vast majority of people start sending MMS instead of SMS more so, video phone capabilities as shown in the A1000 will only be available to an extremely small number of people for the time being. Until late Q4 I 2005 don't suspect that you'd use this feature more then twice. When it comes down to it the A1000 has three things going for it the 1.3 mp camera, which isn't a big deal please get over the hype, 3g, and it has nice styling.

However the "big dog" of the smart phone world that successfully converged a cell phone and a pda has always been the P series by Sony Ericsson. The palm is to palm not enough phone (you look like you are talking into a plate when it is on the side of your face during a call) the Blackberry is very niche and its extended software support is not there as with UIQ more so, it suffers from the same fate as the treo in its size, Blackberry to me is like a glorified t-mobile side kick nothing more. Then finally I come to my point, you have the P910 which has had three tries to get it right , p800, p900 and now the P910. SE has a addressed and fixed issues to make a more perfected phone, the P910, it also is a perfect balance of PDA and phone. And I strongly feel that NOONE has come close to this.

Simply put when you want to do the PDA thing, colander, web surf, edit a document you can do this by simply flipping down the keypad, but for the phone calls, which is you why you bought the damn thing, the flip makes it into a super simple basic phone that anyone can use. Give a stranger your treo that needs to make a call and they will be confused same with the a1000 (plus they would smudge up your screen) and the blackberry ha forget about it, but with the P910 they see it as a thick phone press the buttons hit OK and talk. And thats how it should be. Conservative on the outside and when you need its brawn it is there with a simple flip. It is a modest phone that reserves its powers to only when you need them.

In the End the P910 trumps any competitor as of now b/c of available services in the US and all around being a great phone. And when it comes time for the p1000 or p930 you can sell the p910 and pick up one of these phones with minimal marginal cost. And please don't hold out for the P1000, b/c by then there will be something else on the horizon that you will want. I have a feeling that when the P1000 does ship most of its features will be able to be employed by the user and the environment in which they live.
