SmartMovie Bitrate limit ?

21 replies · 6,607 views · Started 16 October 2004

Hi,
When I make the movies for my device, what's the highest Bitrate
I can use to get full frame rate in my phone ? (Full Screen - 24FPS at list
with 40-50Kps sound)

I heard that on too high bitrates the movie will jump ...

SmartMovie can rarely play 24FPS without skipping.I'd suggest using the reduce frames options with 128 Kbps Video.

But this option reduces the frame rate to 10-11, and that is too slow
for the action parts... Can't I use 90-100Bitrate to get at list 20FPS or More ? What about the audio? if I use high rate for the audio will it slow down the video too ?

What about the Real player on the phone ?
Is it able to run full 24FPS movies ?

SmartMovie reduces the framerate around 15fps which is quite acceptable for the small screen the N-Gage has.If you increase the audio bitrate, most likely the video will suffer. As for Real Player,i don't know. You will get the best results trough trial and error.

The Proplem is that smartmovie resuces to 9-11FPS (from a 24FPS movie) and it's very jumpy to see a movie like this so I have to use the higher frame rate. so what bitrate you can see smoothly in your device ? About the sound, is 32Kps ok for smooth playback ?

I may be wrong but i believe that SmartMovie doesn't cut the framerate in half but uses a smarter framerate reduction algoritham.I use 24Kbs,16KHz mono audio.

Don't think so ...
Smartmovie's help sais that it takes "Every other frame"
from the video, meaning half of the fram rate.
Bad ... real bad, Couse most of my stuff is 24:2=12FPS
besides it screws up the audio sync this way.

Not really-this is what I do. I rip my dvd film with drDivX without resizing, but with an insane bitrate to keep dvd quality intact (2500 kpbs). I then get a 3gig divX file which I load into smartmovie with the "reduce frames" option on, use the xvid codec at 112 kbps, 40 kbps mono audio. I encoded Pulp Fiction and Jay&Silent Bob Strike Back like this and got good results. Except 1 or 2 split seconds durine the film I get an obvious slowdown. Don't know what that is due to. Maybe another application starting?

Umm, I think that it will only play ok for up to 80KPS bit rate
and get the audio down to 32Kps.
Also cheack if other stuff run in the background.
BTW, did U use the XVID that came with SmartMovie
in the Encode ?

What about Real Movies ?
Can They run smoothly (20-30FPS)
on the NGage ?
If only there was a program to play them full screen .... 😞

Pvplayer is your answer.

Yes, I'm using the xvid codec that came with smartmovie. I read the readme and it says you can pick the best video bitrate by finding your screen resolution. For the N-Gage, 112, therefore, is fine. And it says you can up the audio to 32 or more if you are watching music videos-presumably to keep audio clear. I like to keep my film's audio clear-that's why I use 40.

What Codecs does it play ? REAL ?
full screen ?
and how it's performance with high bitrate movies ?

It plays MP4 and 3GP files..unsure about the other ones

It does play full screen.

and it plays high bitrate movies pretty well.

I know SmartMovie Gets "Jumpy" after 64KPS ...
With Full frames ....

GhostDog wrote:The only application that was able to play full fps videos without skipping was Mobiclip.

Doesn't mobiclip play only Flash clips ??

AnyWay, no one gave me a direct answer ...
What's SmartMovie's Limit for 24FPS reasoneble video playback ?

I have spent all day counting those frames, and I just ended up with a Headache, why don't you try?

Don't use the frame limiter and check when it slows down, starting with low kbps and steadily choosing better Quality.

I will, when I get the time ...
I only asked if anyone discovered the right bitrate for S60 yet
with his tries.

Mobilclip's convertor was able to convert reglular videos MPEG-1,2 and flash files in to its own .MO format,so no,not just flash files.
