Does it not end up in your messages inbox and play your text message alert?? I have never received a file from another bt phone (I always send them stuff).

That is if the device is allowed access to your phone like what you do when u send a file from pc to phone, that is allow access or authorise or something. Bluejacking programs can do this, alert you when other bluetooth devices are present one ive tried was mobiluck but i kindda forgot if it alerts you if someone is sending you a message, but im sure that it vibrates upon detecting other Bluetooth devices around. Other Bluejacking devices can probably do this as well.
