The first X I got was not able to use memory cards, the memory card slot
was broken. Now after approx 1 month of waiting (from Nomatica.com -
don't use them if you dont' want to wait!!) I got a new Sendo X.
The new unit has the latest firmware it looks like (X 1.56.22).
Overall I am just about satisfied, but there are some dissapointing issues I hope
can be sorted out:
1. The camrea is of dissapointing quality. Pictures seems blury and red. There
seem to be no difference between regular mode (day mode) and night mode,
when moving the phone (camera) there are tracks after lights in the display,
just like a camera set with very low shutter speed for taking night pictures.
Well, in night mode I could understand this, but on the X it is like this whatever
camera mode you choose.. The result is you have to wait for several seconds
for the red color to go away before you shoot any pictures, and in addition you
have to hold the phone absolutely still to get clear pictures (the shutter speed
is waaay too sloow). I expected at least the Sendo X camera to be better than
my previous Nokia 6600, but it is actually worse. Dissapointing, and hope this
can be fixed with software (firmware), and that it is not due to bad hardware
(camera lens).. Last but not least, the so-called flash is a joke, and really makes
the pictures even more red-alike.
2. Quality of MP3 sound is very good, but weird that the phone can not handle
multitasking better than any other Nokia phone when playing MP3's. In my opinion
the Sendo X should, because of the extra audio- and video processor, but no.
Also when playing MP3 from a MMC memory card switching songs go veeery slow!
- And switching songs backward is just about impossible.
I hope this is due to the MMC standard, and I have now orderered a Sandisk
Ultra II 60X 1Gb Secure Digital card, if this does not help, I don't really see
the point with using this phone as an MP3 player anymore.
3. Sometimes there are still sparkling sounds when playing ringtones, and during
phone-talks. Don't know why and this is severly dissapoint from this phone with
the extra audio- and video hardware embedded. I have discovered that the
quality of the sounds improves somewhat (sparkling decreases) when moving the
wav-files from the MMC card to the phone memory. Again, I hope this can be
improved by using a high-spec SD card, but remains to be seen.
4. In general I think the software compatibility with Symbian S60 software is bad,
and I am dissapointed. Too much software work bad, or simply does not work at
all on this unit. And the Symbian S60 v6.1 platform seem to be on it's way out
allready. IGO has now developed an office suite; Quick Office Premier v2 that
makes you able to not only view Word, Excel and Powerpoint files, but also edit
them. But this software of course does not work on the Sendo X since it requires
Symbian 7. Also they (iGO) have no plans of making this software compatible with
the Sendo X, I have asked them. I am still waiting to find out if TomTom Mobile
works on this phone, if it does not I am really starting to get second thoughts
about this expensive buy.
5. The design of the phone I really like. It looks better than any other Symbian S60
I have ever seen, and It feels veeeery good in my hand. The keyboard is of good
quality, and makes my able to type my messages really fast. The joypad I like very
much. The NOW screen, well I would have liked to be able to choose whether to
use this or not, but it is not the end of the world, starting to get used to it NOW 😉
6. The vibrator continues to vibrate for some time after a answering a phone call,
irritating. After making a phone call, I get an annoying loud piip in my ear from the
phone.. In general I think the developers of the Sendo X must have been deaf;
If you turn on keypad tones, even the lowest level is way to high in my opinion,
and even louder than the loudest I have ever hear on another phone. The
annoying sounds that play insanely loud when swithcing off (and on) the phone
should be removed or the volume severly lowered. If you turn of the phone before
going to bed, you risk waking up the whole house.
7. Screen quality is pretty good, but not as bright as my old Nokia 6600, even
when set to ultra bright. For some reason is seems like when using the phone
and some applications that the whole screen/pictures is redrawn, as you can see
the screen flashing... Don't like this...
8. Speed. The phone is REALLY fast, and surfing inbetween menus goes like
a whirlwind, nomatter how much shit I have on the memory card. If I tried this
on my N-6600 it would hang...The phone does not recognize the memory card if I
switch it off and on again. I have to remove the memory card, and re-insert it for
the phone to recognize it, weird and not good..
9. Car hands-free set uses bluetooth technology. This I DO NOT like!! 😞
Because I want a real hands-free set with a real speaker and microphone, which
turns off the volume on my car-stereo when I receive a phone call, which consist
of a craddle which charges the phone etc.. Also using a bluetooth car-hands-free
raises a problem. Given that TomTom Mobile does work on this phone, I can not
use it in conjucntion with the Sendo X Bluetooth Car-Hands-Free set, since the
Sendo X does not support concurrent bluetooth devices (connecting to more than
one bluetooth device simultaniously). I have adressed Sendo with this problem,
(which they seem to admit IS a problem), but they have no plans of developing
a new car-hands-free set with a proper charging-craddle that does not use
bluetooth-technology. The only hope they gave me is that a 3'rd party developer
might develop something like this, but I doubt ... 😞
10. There are still some minor issues that is annoying me with this phone, but
still I like it. If the sparkling sounds (electrical interference) goes away and the
camera quality dramatically improves I could be satisfied. But I am afraid that
the camera Iris bad quality is a hardware issue and not software (hope I
am wrong)..
Still, after having had the phone for a couple of days, my Nokia 6600 seems like
a over sized plastic bading-toy for children that came out of a "Kinder Egg".. So
even if I am not 100% satisfied with the Sendo X (still) I must say like Einstein
said; "everythin is relative" 😉 - So I guess we using this phone are some
demanding people..
Also, I read the Neonode N1 is getting veery bad reception from the people that
have been waiting for it, so it is not easy satisfying the mobile power-users of
today! 😊
I will get back with more opinions when I have tested the phone some more, and
after having tested it extensively with my soon to have Sandisk Ultra-II 60X 1GB
SD card.
