P910 AND BMW Bluetooth

9 replies · 8,972 views · Started 31 October 2004

Hi, I am new to this forum so please accept my apologies if this question has been discussed before or is irrelevant to 99.9% of you.

Does anyone have a P910 and got it to successfully pair with BMW's bulit in bluetooth kit including phone book etc?

Thanks very much

A forum about X5's tells this:

SonyEricsson P910
Cradle for BMW: Not at this time
Sync of phonebook with BMW: Manual - SIM and phone memory
Remarks: GSM Pairs fine with ULF but requires manual transmission of phone book entries

Manual means that you have to send the address book from the P910i to the BMW manually, instead of the automatic sync (like my Nokia/E60 does).

I'd like to share info re compatibility of your P910 and your BMW. I have, to date, mixed results but am trying to find out with which models is the P910 compatible.

Please let me know which car you have and whether the tests are successful, so that I can share it with others, and we can troubleshoot together. I have ordered my P910 and plan to receive and test it next week on my 6 series (645Ci), which should provide info re compatibility of current 5 and 6 series BMWs (models E60/63/64).

I am getting conflicting reports, and am trying to relate with which systems the P910 is compatible:

WORKS with current BMW 5 and 6 series (same platform):
I know of one current 5 series owner that just reported that the P910 works in his car.

WORKS with Sony HCB-300:
(SioComms) Installed a P910i with the new Sony HCB-300 kit the other day to a 3 series and it worked flawlessly

DOES NOT WORK (BMWland tester reported failure, but uncertain on which model he tested - I'm checking):
(airax) P910 - doesn't work. It pairs fine, but does not download the phone book.
When you try an call, it disconnects from the car.

Conclusion: From this, it appears that the P910 may be compatible with some of the BMW BT systems, and not with others (irritating). I can understand why this is so (different hardware, different software, probably even different manufacturers inside) ... but it is confusing and frustrating. 🙄

I have a 2004 5 series and a P800. Tried (before buying this time 😃 ) a P910.

The device was recognised but unable to make or answer phone calls, let alone download phone book.

Everytime I tried to answer a call via the steering wheel commands, the phone would dial the last number in memory.

I asked BMW for a clear statement.
My dealer just gave me a list , wher the P910is stated as NOT being compatible. 6310 anyone?

Go figure... next time I'll buy a lada and a samsung!

Update (24.11.2004) on the P910 compatibility with factory BMW Bluetooth systems

I have bad news to report on apparent P910 incompatibility with BMW Bluetooth: :con?

DOES NOT WORK with current BMW 5 and 6 series:
Test car: 2004 645Ci, build date June 2004, US spec car. 5 and 6 series share same platform.
I just got a P910a (U.S. frequency version of P910) and the combination does not work. Although the phone and car pair and the phone recognizes the car as a headset, the car is unable to recognize the phone as active. On outgoing calls, the phone attempts to use the cars audio, but one only hears silence in the car.

DOES NOT WORK with current 2004 BMW 3-series
Test car: 2004 330CI, Build date July 2004 with OEM BT KIT, UK spec car.
(airax) P910 - doesn't work. It pairs fine, but does not download the phone book.
When you try an call, it disconnects from the car.

WORKS with Sony HCB-300 (aftermarket BT kit):
(SioComms) Installed a P910i with the new Sony HCB-300 kit the other day to a 3 series and it worked flawlessly

Conclusion: From this, it appears that the P910 is not compatible with BMW BT systems.

P.S. I'd love to hear if someone can prove me wrong. SonyEricsson may come out with a firmware upgrade that makes the connection work. I really like the SE P900/P910 and would love to use it in my car. In fact, I like the phone so much that I will probably continue using it, without use of my car's BT system. I can't find an equivalent replacement!

Here's the reply from SonyEricsson when I asked them if they were aware of the incompatibility between the P910 and the BMW Bluetooth systems:

---------SONY reply--------
The P910 is supposed to be compatible because it supports the Bluetooth headset and handsfree profiles, which Lexus and BMW mainly use. Sorry, I wish I could help you, but because the devices are not tested for compatibility, Sony Ericsson will not guarantee the compatibility.

Although not equipped with the features of the P910a, the following Sony Ericsson models have been tested by BMW: T68i, T610, T630, and Z600.

Sony Ericsson P800/P900 series are not compatible, since they do not support the Bluetooth Handsfree profile.

The 6310i works perfectly with the BMW BT kit, incl. cradle. My new phone Motorola RAZR also works, no cradle.

Amazing that this old 6310i has all the necessary bluetooth profiles (because that's the issue with the phones......) and the new ones don't.

I have a 2004 330Ci + a BMW bluetooth module to replace the BMW assist. I can make and receive calls, but my phone book is not automatically transferred.
