Backup memory card from FileManager

I regularly make backups from my Communicator by using the backup facility of FileManager. While performing the backup, FileManager says it will backup 1.6MB. But when I look into the backup directory on the MMC it only backupped 535KB. After comparing the system directory on internal memory and the system directory in the backup directory it appears applications and control panel apps are not backupped. Is this normal operation or a bug in 3.18?

Feel free to correct me anyone who knows better, but, if you back up the files on your 9210 you are backing up the information you have created. Therefore the program you used to create these files won't be backed up but will only exist on the communicator. Is the file manager only backing up the info? And not the app itself? Does that sound right?
