9500 in US Market

Any ideas on release date for 9500 in US Market....will be before the end of the year? With the delay of the Treo 650, Nokia has a great market advantage and jump the release of the 650. Big Nokia Forum event here in Silicon Valley next week, so maybe we will get some news.

I also want to know when it will be out with GSM 850 support.
No other GSM works here 😞

I just looked it up on the Nokia website 9500 FAQ and it looks like they removed the reference to the US version of 9500. This is what it reads now:

The Nokia 9500 Communicator can be used in GSM 900/1800/1900, EGPRS and WLAN (802.11b) networks.

WHY? Does it mean no GSM850 support anymore???

Tmobile is all 1900Mhz stations, where they do have roaming agreements in place with AT&T/Cingular that is where you will lose reception as that is roaming on an 850Mhz band if places where AT&T/Cingular do not have 1900Mhz.

So the 9500 will work best on Tmobile, and will work most of the time on AT&T/Cingular depending on market.

Just what I have found on google about which carriers have which bands.

This is true that all US GSM providers use 1900MHz band, but problem with this band is that even here in the hart of the Silicon Valley you step inside a building and no signal at all. Not in my home or office. I am talking about all 3 GSM providers AT&T, T-mobile and Cingular. I am lucky to have two bars in most of the places on my Nokia 9290. I am jumping like a kid if I ever see full signal anywhere here in California. But when I tested AT&T 850Mhz GSM phone from AT&T I sow very good signal even inside the buildings. So I REALLY need 850MHz capable phone.

Silicon Valley without network connection?!? Next thing you know there will be news out that Bill Gates doesn't own a computer? Jeez!

If I were in that situation I'd complain to the operators..?!

Huh? Operators? They just do not care! They force everybody to switch to GSM 850, and GSM 1900 is very BAD and there is no hope.

Nokia, just pulled 850 from 9300 web site too. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Do they want to skip US market all togather?

Well, I just came back from a Nokia booth (only 2 in the whole country they say, with more coming our way in the US) in my local mall here in IL and got to play with both the 9500/9300 without the internet connectivity. I quizzed them about the US version, and they say that there is a US version of the 9500 coming (didn't ask about the 9300) but they don't know when.

This is great news!!! Where is the second Nokia Booth located in US?

I just chated with Nokia representative on the Nokia.com and he told me that he is expecting 9300 to support GSM 850 for sure, but he could not confirg GSM 850 version of 9500.
