The price of N9300?

21 replies · 4,835 views · Started 04 November 2004

Really? I pre-ordered my 9500 for 686 euro here in Holland... So I reckon the 9300 will be even cheaper.

Could be, but here in Switzerland the 9500 will just cost 30 Euros (50 CHF) more.
So it will be a tough call.

Tough call hmm, i see the 9300 as a stripped version ot 9500.
Ok 9500 is a bit bigger, but WLan and a camera are for me important factors!
30 is a weird price difference imao.

Actually, the official prices will be 9500 770 Euro (1198 CHF) and 9300 640 Euro (998 CHF).
For the time being, there already are webshops offering the 9500 for 685 Euro, but I haven't found any price below the official price for the 9300.
I have been playing around with both device for 2 days duing this week and now I seem to get undecisive about which one to get. The keyboard of the 9300 is really good and easy to write with, plus you can make it flat so that you can write with it "in the air", which does not work with the 9500.
On the other side the camera of the 9500 is only 0.3 megapixel (same as 6230), but still rather good and of course it has WLAN.
As we might get corporate WLAN next sping, this could have some influence on my decision.
By saying it will be a tough call, I meant that (at least in Switzerland) you spent a little extra you get the "complete" solution. So I think a lot of people still will get a 9500 instead of the 9300.

You don't need to have the 9300 necessarily on a table or a firm place to write properly. If you flip it open fully 180 degrees you can nicely hold it and still write with two fingers. Something I could not do properly with a 9500.
If you check the attached picture, you hopefully understand what I mean with 180 degrees open.

Terve Upponalle,

Could you please elaborate a bit on what the differences between the keyboards are? I loved the keyboard on the Revo, and I actually managed to use all my fingers and typing bl**dy fast on it... The 9210 wasn't even close 😞

How are the 9300 and 9500... ?

Kiitos!

First of all, check this thread:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/20773/
There are a lot of pictures and some of them are a "direct" comparison of the 9300 and 9500.

The keyboard of the 9500 is better than the one of the 9300 in my opinion. The 9500 keyboard is close to the 9210 keyboard, but definitely an improvement. The keys are not sticking out anymore, but there is still a minor "gap" between the keys. Something the 9300 does not have. It is more one layer. The "joystick" has been improved as well. It works more exact than in the 9210. The joystick in the 9300 works fine as well, but it took be a bit more time to get used to it than with the 9500, same with typing. You should not have to big fingers when writing on a 9300 (no I'm not saying that the 9300 is more for females, despite the fact that most of the PR photos showing women with a 9300 😃 ) As I explained above, the one thing I like with the 9300 is the fact that you can have it flat and can write in the air.
Nevertheless, I used to have a Psion 5, 7 and was occasionally playing around with a Psion Revo and compared with these keyboards, there is still a long way to go, but Nokia is on the right way.
There are rumours about a 9600 communicator for next year and it should have a "full" keyboard like a Psion 5. Let's see if this comes true.
Check as well this pictures to this thread.
I hope this will help you.

Thanks for your input on the keyboards, Upponalle. I've heard about others having the same experience as you comparing the two keyboards.

The 9500 do look a bit more "macho", doesn't it 😃

Especially the all in black version! 😉

The black cover looks great indeed! But unfortunately it wouldn't match the back side of the phone, so you'd have to paint it or wait for a 3rd party to make a black back cover...

Delta737 wrote:Wow, where did you get that picture of the black 9500 from? Photoshop or is it real?

Nope, it is for real:

So you haven't checked the 9500 site or the user guide enough... 😃

There will be two additional Xpress-On covers, in black and in white. Unfortunately only for the front.

I knew there were gonna be xpress on covers, but I didn't know which colors  Anyway, thanks for the info!

Have you seen this picture? I think the xpress is a ugly mask whether it is black or white. It is not harmonious with the gray back of 9500.

Raven has mentioned it, but this is the proof. I don't know what Nokia was thinking... 😡

Thanks for the info on the keyboards, Upponalle!
The keyboard is the most important factor for me. I can't believe that more manufacturers don't make proper hand-held computers. I think that the 9500 with a Revo-style keyboard would be simply awesome.

Ever since the first news about the 9000 Communicator surfaced I've been trying to achieve that ultimate goal of having your *true* email, web and the rest of the Internet in your pocket. The P800 is the closest so far (thanks to integration between GPRS and mail/web clients), but the P800 and UIQ are clearly designed for non-advanced-users (lacking a better word).... I sincerely hope that the 9500 give us a true -- Communicator -- a device that allows you to communicate in all possible ways anywhere, anytime...

Thanks again Upponalle - and now I'm back to the pictures thread drooling and wasting my time... 😉
