Hi I've bought my 6260 a few days ago and I have realised I am using a firmware older even than my friend's 6600 which he also bought quite recently - but earlier than me.
When I press *#0000#, I get "V 3.0436.5ch, 29-09-04, RM-25".
I assume It was installed at 29th of September. Should I approach the Nokia shop and ask for a firmware upgrade?
I want to ask this as I have tried many applications and a majority have not sucessfully worked.
Thanks,
-Nay
The firmware versions are specific to the phone model. In other words, versions on a different model (like your friend's 6600) have no bearing on what the version is on your 6260.
What you have is the first and latest released version for the 6260, as far as I'm aware (and 29th of September means it is only a little over a month old).
I have a slightly older version, dated 03/09 3.0436.0 is it posible to upgrade?
Oh alright, thanks then. I was also wondering if it was possible to remove some software that I am not in need of. It came with a "Dictionary" software, but unfortunately it was more of an English-Chinese one. I don't see it listed when I open the applications manager though.
One more thing, I have installed OggPlay, and ogg files played successfully on my real player. I did not require two players so I removed oggplay and tried to install the ogg plug-in for Series 60. I couldn't open ogg files anymore. Does the plug-in only work on Series 60 on 6600?
Thanks again,
-Nay
Before I see about upgrading the firmware, could someone with a later version than one dated 03/09 try and see if Active Today or Active Desk work correctly. On my version both these apps stop the screen turning off when the flip is shut.
Thanks
David

My firmware is 'V 3.0436.0'. As your firmware is the latest for 6260, does it allow you to save messages to your memory card? Any info would be appreciated.

Nope, I've searched through the settings and I don't find any option to save messages to memory card.

Hello 😊
I was one of the first "owners" of a 6260 here in Thailand, in fact i bought one for my boyfriend. It was a grey import since Nokia has yet still not officially released it here!
However this phone is full of bugs - confirmed by Nokia the following:
- Messages can NOT be saved to MMC
- saved messages will randomly disappear when the battery is removed (SIM change etc)
- "Web" application corrupts - only solution is a re-flash
- Sound regulating problems - like yours described here, adjusting won't work
- incompatible with MANY applications for both s60 versions 6.x and 7.0
A newer firmware is apparently already available, but the NCS's here in Thailand don't yet have the necessary equipment to flash this phone. My boyfriend's already dumped it's "Web" application and crashed many many times, so we went to the NSC and they told us of the known bugs and asked us fior patience - the "necessary equipment" should be available within 6-8 weeks.
However, your "sound adjusting" problem can be fixed quite easily by resetting the phone, that is, from standby pressing *#7370# The phone will reboot and apparently restore it's factory settings, but in case of my boyfriend's, it corrected some troubles (inclusive that sound adjusting, which worked afterwards) but did not change any settings like profiles, ringers, GPRS settings etc.
Kind regards.....
