Dead phone

After a couple of unexplained shut downs (even when battery was fully charged), the phone this evening has now died. When I first got the phone, I ensured the battery was run flat then recharged twice to allow the power management software to calibrate itself (I have the Expansys 50F firmware) & until the random shutdowns, the battery indicator did seem to be accurate.

I have tried removing & reinserting the battery & running it off mains but the phone will not start (I have tried the usual 5 keydown trick).

Does anyone have any ideas on this ?

I must admit, although I was a big cheer leader for this phone when I first got it, the random shutdowns (& occasional lockups) I have had, have made me lose faith in this phone.

Elite, 50F isn't as stable as 50C! I've actually sent my Expansys handset back to them (and got a replacement) because mine started crashing the "main" application quite regularly.

On my 50C (Pixmania) handset, I've never had these problems...

My advise to you is to send it back to Expansys - they were very accomodating when I sent mine back, so hopefully you'll have no problems... get a new handset out of them (will probably stil be 50F) then flash it to 60D as soon as it becomes available.

Personally, I'm not installing anything I don't need onto my 50F handset, and rebooting it at least once a day at the moment, just to try to keep it stable until I can upgrade it 😊

Stuclark, thanks for your advice on this, I wasnt aware that the later build of the firmware was less stable than the earlier one (as a software developer myself, I know that this can happen sometimes, but it doesnt do much for your credibility when it does!).

Unfortunately, I am just outside the 21 day return period with Expansys, so they wont provide a new handset, however, I have spoken to them & am returning it for repair. If, as I suspect, the hardware fault is critical, they may have to provide a new handset anyway. Of course, I will then have the problem of trying to pursuade all of the software developers that I have purchased from to provide unlock codes for a new IMEI no., however, that is obviously a minor issue compared to getting the phone repaired.

I think Expansys will probably give you a new handset, mine was over it's 21 days when I sent it back (although I told them I was going to return it on the 20th day...)

I think the reason it's not as stable is simply it didn't go through quite the same testing routine as 50C did.

Hopefully 60D will fix all these problems 😊

You were right! - even though the phone was about 6-7 weeks old when I returned it to Expansys, I have just received a new one. I must admit, I am pleasantly surprised by this level of customer service.

Just in case anyway asks: No, the phone still has the build 50F firmware 😉

So my next course of action is to try & pursuade the developers that I have purchased software from, to provide me with an unlock key for the new IMEI no (I suspect this wont be easy).
