i really like to buy a a1000. but three lock the phone so that it can't use other networks' sim card. anyone any idea how to unlock it? if in the short future it may be unlocked, i will consider buy it.
can three's a1000 be unlocked?
Most likely it can be unlocked but you won't find any tips here since the topic of unlocking is considered illegal.
Someone will figure out how to do it sooner or later. Would a Three phone actually physically work with a 2/2.5G SIM as I very faintly remember reading something about Three having developed or used a new type of SIM card that can store more data?

it is the first time i heard unlocking is illegal. is it ture? if so, why are there so many businesses offering unlocking services openly? i am confused.
Well,in some countries it is,so to stay on the safe side we have decided that discussions on the subject of unlocking won't be alowed.Google is your friend.
Unlocking a handset is NOT illegal, the only reason networks lock them is to make it harder for you, and to try to protect their profit margins.
If someone unlocks a 3 phone, that is perfectly legal, and it should work fine on any 2.5G network (3G phones use USIMs, which are different from "normal" SIMs, but USIM phones are compatible with "normal" SIMs) - the only way 3 can block access using one oif their handsets / USIMs is if you're using a 3 USIM in a non 3 handset (2G handset), in this case they're allowed to block the IMEI of the 2G handset from registering on their network. Note, this isn't a full IMEI bar, it's just the same as happens if one of the networks "suspends" your account.
Like i said, the unlocking subject being not allowed is on of the rules of the forum which you agreed to abide when you registered so please,do so.
Yor getting confused Ghost Dog. Unlocking a phone from a network is NOT illegal. Unlocking stolen handsets which have been barred from all networks by changing IMEI is illegal.
So can we now talk about unlocking this great handset from the worst provider? Thanks.
No one is even discussing exactly *how* to unlock the A1000, so even if it were illegal, no one is breaking the rules of these forums.
However, seeing as unlocking a handset (that is removing the SIM and NET locks) is NOT ILLEGAL.
Only changing IMEI numbers on a phone is illegal!
It may not be illegal in your country but it is considered 'illegal' by AAS, as in, talking about it is against the rules of the forum.
I was interested in this, seeing as for some odd reason there was the belief that unlocking a phone is illegal so I sent an email to various sites on the net.
Here is the information I received,
"Globally unlocking a phone is NOT illegal for the simple reason you are resetting a phone to its original state (as it was made by the manufactuer etc)"
What is considered illegal?
"Unlocking a phone if it is explicitly not allowed or stated in a contract"
"Changing the IMEI number"
Where can I unlock a phone?
"Usually the service provider can allow this for a small fee"
"In shops or online"
hi,
here (in australia)
3 will unlock the phone after you have spent A$195, or more in 3 service charges.
alternatively you can just give them the $195, and they'll do it. (or so they say)
cheers,
glenn
As far as I heard Motorola is using a random unlock code generator, so you can't just unlock your phone. They are publishing the generated codes on a special server where e.g. 3 has access to (so they can give you the number if you give them the money).
Unfortunately, Motorola seems to be a little bit slow with putting the numbers up, so there are many unlock codes missing on the server. Most phones are currently not unlockable (because of this)...by the way, there are some shops with access to the server as well and they take less for the code!
Bye,
Alex
Hi!
I'm from germany and want to buy a A1000 via ebay. (Because here in Germany it is impossible to buy one with a contract or even without one...)
But most of the phones you get there are simlocked to "three".
I think it is NOT illegal to unlock a phone, that I even can't get in my country (Because of Motorola not selling the phone to german providers).
Could you please tell me how to do it? Or send me links?
If not allowed through this forum, could you send it to my e-mail removed?
Thanks!

It's not allowed on this forum, and e-mail adds for such purposes aren't either.
Hi!
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I really want to buy such a phone and I think it's more than legal.
What would you say, if you like for example bananas very much and suddenly all banana-exporting countries will breed bananas, which are contaminated with a deadly toxin and you can only eat them with a anti-toxin, which will save your life after eating this bananas. Further, imagine every country around your home-country would get the anti-toxin for free and you had to pay half your monthly salary to get it.
I hope you know now, if just a little bit, how we germans feel about motorolas "exclusive-policy" at the moment.
I think there is not just me in this forum who wants to buy a a1000 for use in germany, so I decided to open a small forum about that topic: http://removed (Please, don't remove the link!)

I'm from Holland myself, so no A1000 for me either. HOWEVER, rules are rules here on this forum, unlocking-discussion is not allowed (I'm not saying it's illegal for you to get it unlocked, it is just illegal to discuss it here). That's why I had to remove it (again)

It might be not allowed, but it is not illegal (your forum rules don't have the status of a law)...and I think, you should invest the time in rethinking about the rules and not in editing every message here. Just my two cents...
Alex
TexMurphy, you agreed to abide the rules when you joined the forum so they kinda have the status of a law.If you don't like it,feel free to leave.

If you read my reply carefully, I said it is NOT illegal to unlock, it is just not illegal to discuss it here (that is the "law" on this forum). Like GhostDog said, you agreed to the rules, now stick too it

And I still disagree. It might be a rule, but not a law. A law is something important, powerful, an agreement of the whole society, based on a government decision or a high court. To call the rules of an Internet community a "law" would not be appropriate. Therefore, it can't be illegal, because it is not a question of "legality". His unlock-question is just not conform to the rules. It is just a rule and nothing more...
Alex
Semantics.
Its completely irrelevant whether you or anyone else consider our rules a law.I'm not going to repeat myself. One of the rules of this community is that unlocking is not to be discussed and it will stay that way unless the rules change. If you continue this discussion i'll be force to close this thread.

Try this Thread for unlocking your A1000 😮 😉 :icon14:

As has been said, this is NOT allowed. Link removed
