Just doing the upgrade now.
Any ideas whats new in the upgrade or what bug fixs there are?
Now here is a fun one.
No matter what i do, when i do a backup, my contacts DB does not get backed up.
Interesting, any1 else have this problem.
Yep, it seems to be a new thing (i.e. last six months or so). I suspect it might have something to do with Tracker but haven't been able to confirm this. Do you have Tracker installed?
For me no problem to restore contacts db and I have Tracker 4.04 on my phone. Perhaps something like QuickContact or SmartBirthday, do you have this on your phone ?
😊
I got all 3 on my phone.
It useto give an error backing up if i had the mem stick in.
But this with the p910i no error came up. So silly me thought it all worked 100%
Try to backup and restore without SmartBirthday and QuickContact !
😊
Anyone knows what the SEM Desktop is?
My upgrade was flawless. Not a single error msg. I do notice the handset running a tad bit faster too.
I was wondering the exact same thing (about SEM Desktop)! Could it be like Palm Desktop as an alternative to bad syncing with Outlook?

First off this is the latest organizer firmware:

In addition, the online updater is giving you that message because it means your P910 is NOT capable of being updated via the online service. My guess is that you have a branded phone and branded phones can only be updated at a service point. That is because SE has to get permission from the operators before they can allow certain phones to be updated. Some members thought they could get around it by simply flashing it with a virgin firmware, but I believe there is also an IMEI check that links it back to the original operator thereby rending that process useless. So, if that is the case forget about using the SE online update service m8.

I've bought unbranded P910i .(In my country there isn't anytrhig like branded , unbranded, simlocked etc. If you want to buy a smartphone then go to the official store of company)
What language is your phone set to? It could just be that SE have not yet released te latest firmware in your language.
What language is your phone set to?
There are 2 languages in my phone '''Uk English''' and '''Simplified Chinese'''.
My phone is setted to Uk English
What is your CDA number 16200x/x ?
😊
What is your CDA number 16200x/x ?
Mine is CDA 162005/13 R1A17.
i know that the update is for 162005/2.
but how did you update ur CDA to R2A17(16200x/x) from R1A17(162005/13) ?
Are you the same nick111 as in my-symbian.com ?
Aahh.. You got one of those Chinese phones... My buddy got one shortly after the P910 was released. Problem with those is that Chinese characters still pops up in the keyboard even while set to UK because the inherent dictionary is Chinese. Moreover, those particular units don't offer the extended language packs available to the R2A units. Unfortunately, you will have to get this phone manually flashed. A lot of consumers have been duped in buying these units with vendors telling them every is updatable via SE's website. However, SE seemed to have very little support for the phones with the Chinese dictionary. Again, your only option is to get it manually flashed m8. Sorry.

pretty simple solution, just disable the chinese handwriting in the primary input method option

I have already did it.But there isn't any option for another language in "Primary input method".
I honestly don't think there's a way for you to get out of this.. I have seen it back when the P800 was released. No matter what they ended up doing they couldn't get rid of the inherent Chinese characters. As for the P900 and P910 all update become impossible because there has to be one customized especially for those types of phones. That's why the first online update with the new language packs was not compatible with these Chinese P910s. A lot of consumers got sucked into buying these phones nonetheless with the promise that the online updates would take care of everything.. WRONG!!!
Hi,
Can anyone help me out please. I have just got my P910i. It was working fine until I entered a yearly reminder for a birthday with an alarm to remind me a month ahead. The phone now freezes whenever I try to enter the calendar or tasks and I have to reset the phone. I have checked out the sony ericsson website and upgraded to the latest firmware R3A04. The phone worked fine until I restored from backup and then the same problem re-occurred. I am assuming that it is having issues resolving the calendar entry which is taking up all its processor time. I cannot find options whereby I restore only the contacts and it won't let me sync the calendar (my thought being delete the entry from my pc and then overwrite the phone calendar). Anyone got any ideas/hints/tips.
Thanks
March-Hair
This is a long shot but maybe it will work.
Try downloading some 3rd part calander app and see it that open and can delete the bad entry.
Maybe aqua calander or something like that.
Like i said a long shot.
Or if nothing else is helping you try then to install all from beginning and NOT use restore. Not fun but maybe necessary 🙄
