Hi.
I'm just thinking about whether or not to invest in a USB dongle/adapter for use with my 7610 and Nokia PC Suite.
I currently use the USB cable that was supplied with the phone, however the convenience of the bluetooth sounds good, so you don't have to keep plugging/unplugging the phone (lazy I know!).
Can anyone give me some sort of idea of a speed comparison for transferring files, as a friend of mine seems to think that the bluetooth is slower.
Also, has anyone had any problems/compatabiity issues with bluetooth that I should avoid, and can anyone reccommend a good adapter to me? Does the coverage range vary between adapters? Most I have seen quote 10 metres, although I have seen one quote a figure of 25 metres.
Thanks very much,
James.
There are two types of bluetooth adapters. I believe that the ones that do 25-30 metres are called "Class A". The ones that do 10 metres are "Class B" and should be cheaper.
Also the issue with compatibility seems to be more about drivers than anything else. So when installing the adapter it is best to have Win XP updated to Service pack 2 , and use the Windows XP own drivers to do the install - not the ones that come with the adapter.
USB is miles faster than Bluetooth. It just took me half an hour to transfer 28 meg of MP3 files via Bluetooth (cant get cable to work on this PC). Using the cable on my office PC would have taken about 5 minutes.
If you do get a Bluetooth adaptor you might as well get a 10 metre one as all phones only support this range anyway.
