Backing up SMS/MMS

Hi all,

My phone internal memory is currently full, but nothing is installed, I just have SMS/MMS messages. I want to archive them to my computer.

Sadly it seems that the S-E software suite doesn't allow this. The messages don't seem to be stored in any readily accessibly format on the phone, and the .ecs backup files, although being Zip compatible, aren't easy to hack about.

I have been told that Oxygen Phone Manager is the way ahead for getting SMS messages off the phone, but doesn't work for MMS messages.

1. Is there a way for getting MMS messages off the phone?
2. Why didn't S-E forsee this? It is a "business" phone after all! Not to be able to archive old messages is inexcusable IMHO.

Thanks in advance,
Martin.

Edited to say:
It would seem that Oxygen Phone Manager only works via IR or BT - I have a perfectly good serial connection that came with the phone so what do I do to back up my messages?
