I recently unlocked my mobile with a code i was given it was locked but now when i switch in it asks me to allow it to send messages. i have not activated or asked for any updates, why does it do this?

Sounds like you have an application installed that it trying to send out SMS. When such happens, the phone will always ask for permission (in order to prevent malicious software from sending messages undetected).
