You update the firmware by taking/sending the phone to your nearest Nokia authorized service center. It requires special equipment and firmware image files.
Your problem, however, might be cleared by reformatting the phone.
Do that by having a fully charged battery or the phone on AC (you don't want to loose power in the middle of the procedure), then type *#7370# on the standby/idle screen (where you'd dial a number for a call), when requested enter the lock code (default is 12345, if you haven't changed it).
All messages, contacts, settings, pictures, applications, etc., in phone memory will be gone (the phone will be, more or less, in the state it was in when it left the factory where it was made).
