Help getting Opera to work over GPRS

3 replies · 2,228 views · Started 22 November 2004

I've done a search and I think that I cannot download full internet over my existing WAP GPRS settings. I tried phoning O2 (50p per min!!!), only to get a fairly useless girl on the other end who was determined to email me my existing WAP settings.

Do I need something activated on my sim card, or do I just need different settings? If I need something activated - what is it so I can properly explain to the clueless 13 year old girl on the O2 helpline.

This is driving me nuts, I've been trying for days to get this sorted - any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike.

You need your operator to activate (full) GPRS Internet access, if it isn't done by default. Some operators do not offer it for all types of subscriptions/pans (they might not allow it for pre-paid, for example).

Then you need the GPRS Internet Access Point settings for your operator. In many cases you can have their customer service send them as a configuration message (often they send also the MMS and WAP Access Point settings, too). Some operators have a web page where you can have the settings sent (or they list the details and you can enter/type in the settings on your own). There are also operators to which you can send a special SMS to request the settings, and they send them as a reply message (or several) back to you.

You could also try this Nokia page for settings:

Opera needs the GPRS Internet settings and doesn't (as far as I remember) work with WAP settings.

Cheers for the replies. I now understand where my problem lies, all I have to do now is to phone my operator and get them to activate my account (hopefully I'll get someone a bit more knowledgable on the phone this time).

Thanks for the help,
Mike.
