msdriveE:restore ur old messages

14 replies · 11,729 views · Started 23 November 2004

After installing msdriveE u'llsee tht all ur old messages r gone,

(source:tyRion)
"if you want to keep all the messages you had on your phone your going to have to copy over all the folders from c:\system\mail to e:\system\mail

FExplorer won't let you copy files within folders within folders, what happens is it copies the contents of a selected folder and pastes it to the current folder)

So what you do is go to C:\System (on your phone, via FExplorer) and copy Mail (press 1). Move to E:\System\Mail\ and paste (7) overriding all existing files

Then go back to C:\System\Mail\ and copy 00001001_S.
Back to E:\System\Mail\00001001_S and paste [tip * goes back to the drive select screen]

Here is where the annoyance starts
Go to C:\System\Mail\00001001_S and copy "0"
Paste this in E:\System\Mail\00001001_S\0

Repeat through all the hex numbers 0-f

You may have to repeat this for the 00100000_S folder if you use MMS but this was empty on mine."

after u've done all this u hav to copy the file index from c: to e:
however this is not allowed as the index in e:system\mail is being used by the phone.first copy c:\system\mail\index to any other location(say e:\index)
Then shut down ur phone->remove mmc->restart ->go to messages
it'll say tht " mmc unavailable device mem.will be used"
now cut e:index(or whichever position u used) &paste it in c:system\mail->override the existing file
run msdriveE again and ur problem is solved 😎

How do you do to update the index with old messages? I had a problem and lost the index of 600 sms, so I backup in serveral days before it happen the sms folders, but the index file its always wrong, there is any way to create the index? Or update an existing one?

i think i've answered tht ques above
read carefully about copying the index 🙄

The problem is that there isnt any "Index"! Just the files of the smss, I need to create one new "Index" file, because the smss are recognize in the MMC details, but when I change mmc -> phone memory or phone memory-> mmc nothing happens, the phone cant recognize them! =|

if u r using fexplorer(or same sort of some prog.) &u can still not find any index then probably its lost n u cant create one(at least i think so).So those messages r gone.......

I explain better I have several backups of my SMS, with all files, but one between 23/'8/2004 and 07/9/2004 doesnt have any index, but the files of the messages are there, do you know any program who can create the "Index" file, or any way to recreate it? Or any document that explain how the SMS file systems work in the 3650 Symbian system? Thanks 4 the help any way

I have installed msvdrive. However, I found out that if I have ejected my MMC card, I can no longer create SMS messages. The error that I get when trying to create a new text message is "Messaging: System error, try again"

Is this supposed to be happenning? Isn't it supposed to switch back to phone memory?

ah ok, turning off and back on again fixed the problem 😊

Seriously, you guys have got to stop using msvdriveE or whatever it's called now. It's flakes out all the time and leaves your mailbox a mess split between your C: and E: stores. And then you can't get to one set of messages or the other.

Hey kkliak, if I were you I'd find out how to get a program called MessageStorer. It does a nice job of making a text file archiving all of your messages. Then you can bluetooth it over to your computer and search it.

There's also a free one called Message Saver, but I didn't have very good luck with it.

Another thing you can try --especially if there are pics or movies that you want to recover-- is Best FileMan. It has a "Mailbox" pseudo-folder that makes your mailbox look like one big folder that you can grab things from. And unlike the copycat feature in the newest FExplorer, FileMan's actually works on my phone. (FileMan isn't free either, however.)

Good luck, if worse comes to worst you have a lot of subfolders to peruse...
