Network issue

Hi all,

I've had my Sendo X for a few days now and I have noticed that occasionally I cannot make a call even though I have full network strength. Additionally, people have called and said that the phone goes straight to Voicemail sometimes.

I have done a few test myself and it does indeed go to voicemail sometimes while still showing full network strength.

The phone is on Vodafone UK as was the other phone I was testing with ( my company phone - a rather boring Nokia 3510 ! ).

Any ideas ? Is this something that the firmware upgrade will fix ?

Should I just call Voda ?

Thanks Hippo

I've seen that behaviour once (I have the eXpansys firmware), and that was shortly after I got the phone when I played with the MP3 player. It has never happened since, but I haven't used the MP3 player since.

If you have been using the MP3 player then you might want to power cycle the phone and then try avoiding it for a day or two and see if the problem recurs.

Ok - that might be a clue - It did happen with the MP3 player, but has also happened when I have been showing it off - mainly after using the camera and other apps.

Maybe when you play with the apps, it forgets it's a phone a s well 🙄

Plinkydev - any thoughts !?

This behaviour has been seen before (by me and others) - typically, every other call will be missed. i.e. calls 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. will be received, yet calls 2,4,6 etc. will be missed.

On the two handsets and three firmwares I've tested this with, it appears to be down to other applications which are running at the same time. Do you have any 3rd party applications installed, and if so, which ones? (psilloc apps and Mobiluck caused these problems for me).

Some people have reported this happening when using the MP3 player - I haven't been able to replicate that on any of my handsets, but it is possible I suppose.

Here's a link to some testing I did some time ago on this problem... http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/28471/

that's true, i can NOT receive ANY calls when in mp3...

even after i shut down the mp3 player, it still takes some time for my phone to be able to receive any calls or messages...

Thanks for the replies.

I have FSCALLER running and AgilMobile installed ( doesn't work with Voda UK ). I also have ActiveMail which has a scheduler running to check my email account for mails every few hours.

As far as I know only this and FSCALLER are active, although neither show up in the task switcher. I may uninstall FSCALLER anyway as it prevents contacts.cdb from being backed up as it is permanently in use.

hippotech - is the task switcher a built in app? my speeddial key for the camera wouldn't work yesterday and i had to go in through the apps menu. I was wondering of there was a built in way....

Hi Hippo,

Have you got a link to the activemail website

Cheers

ActiveMail is at www.cibenix.com

Make sure you don't try the Nokia 6600 one ( I did ! ) it doesn't work and just crashes.

The one that works is the Series 60 version ( It is marked as Nokia 7650 version 1.2 ).

Works very well and only downloads headers, not the whole mail so you can pick and choose which ones you want to waste GPRS costs on....

I have found that it's this type of application which is constantly running in the background (but without making itself known to the task switcher) which causes these problems. I think they somehow "interfere" with the phone's ability to tell itself about incoming calls.
