N-Gage QD gets choppy.

Hey,

Just couple tips, you could disable bluetooth while playing mp3/movies and use offline profile when using movieplayer/mp3 player? Then you could install movieplayer or mp3 player to phone memory instead running them from mmc as you have the movies and mp3's on MMC it might be that there is to much access/traffic to and from mmc...

Problem

Certain times the system gets choppy during an intensive application. About every 3 minutes, the system gets choppy during movie playback (smartmovie), or playing a game (shadowkey, colin mcrae 2005). This annoyance is comparable to using a low end computer to play a game, and the system starts updating it's anti-virus definition.

The system works flawlessly when the system isn't choppy (I can shuffle back in the movie and play the same scene normal again)

Solutions

I've tried defragmenting my 512mb mmc card. Does not help.
I've searched the board with the words "choppy, mmc, smartmovie". No luck.
I've uninstalled MsDriveE using the correct steps.
I've uninstalled Autolock.
I've changed the screensaver time out from 1 minute to 15 minutes.

Nothing works.

So I beg for help now ... :frown:

I came here today because i have the EXACT same problem! Everything is fine, then for no reason everything gets choppy, and few seconds later goes back to normal.

I have a N-gage and a 128 MB card, i tried formating the card twice (once from windows, and the other with the phone), but didnt help. But i think its related either with the cm2005 or shadowkey, since i only experienced this after installing them, but im not 100% sure either.

So consider this a friendly bump :con?

think i managed to fix the problem, cleared off all the games off my mmc, and emptied the "libs" folder in system, and then with the mmc out of the n-gage qd, I went into the "game mgr." in "tools" and cleared out all the elder scrolls and mcrae files, so far seems to have done the trick. I have since re-installed the games i have from before and i havent had any problems with those or smartmovie. Hope this helps you guys. hopefully someone smarter than me will figure out the exact problem so we can play these games. Space_monkoi

Hello again.

I think I got it. I removed Shadowkey from my mmc card, and the savegames from the game manager. Friends seem to play fine now (only tested it for 6 minutes).

Colin McRae is still on my card though.

can anyone confirm if shadowkey makes the n-gage choppy? I noticed that it only started after i installed it, so maybe its that... Seems that it isnt a commun problem :con?

yeah shadowkey seems to be the problem.... after installing is there is the lag. I guess it's not a common complaint, because kinda hard to get ur hands on the game!! I dun wanna uninstall it just yet (until i complete), but thanks for all the inputs....

anyway there's another problem with colin mccrae...after i installed the game, it affected my extended profiles. for some reason mccrae is set to autorun in all the profiles. It doesn't autorun actually but when i open my mmc, some image or sound files have the mccrae logo icon beside the file....weird

anyway it doesn't really affect my phone otherwise. i couldn't set the autorun to default or no program or something, it would always go back to mcrae. so i set it to telephone and the problem goes away.

just fyi, any other problems with these games let me know....i installed quite a few already hehehehe

I am having this EXACT same problem

I don't have Shadowkey installed, but do have colin mcraes installed.

I get this on games as well (Tiger Woods 2004) and also smartmovie player. It looks like its trying to access the mmc card.

I've only got six apps running, and am using 744k of mem.

Oh for the record its a 1gb "My Flash ADATA" card (Samsung)

Does anyone have any ideas ??

I was having this same problem, until I found this thread. I figure it has something to do with the fact that Shadowkey has 1,938 files, maybe the system just can't handle that many? But then that wouldn't explain why the retail version works fine... Does Colin McRae have alot of files too? I only have the retail version of that and I haven't had any problems with it. Oh, maybe it's because there is only 1 game on the retail MMC, whereas there are multiple games on my MMC which might push the total number of files over the 'limit'?? I'd like to hear some input so we can get to the bottom of this.
