Another Stupid Flaw with 9500

17 replies · 5,446 views · Started 24 November 2004

In contacts, I list my first names as first names and last names as last names, which all work in Contact, Telephone and on the front which lists it correctly as first then last name. But when people call it comes up last then first name. How stupid is that.

On top of this I thought I would call Nokia, to see if there is another setting for the front, they said to change all my contacts the other way round, thus put the first name in the last name field and last name in the first name field. I have over 800 contacts, and I am furious. They said there is no other way, and this has been the case for all their old phones, which is not the case as all 12 of my other Nokias Phones work fine.

Do any of you have this problem, or do I have a faulty phone?

Really disappointed with Nokia Customer Service the first level are complete morons.

Thats not your faulty phone. Check settings on your phone. I changed settings in the control panel and everything is OK now.

That was the first thing I did and changed the settings in Contacts, as I hate Last Name, First Name. but the problem is still there, only when people call?

Does any one else have this problem? I did the data mover from my 9210i and even tried from MS Outlook? All the other phones I currently use 6310i, 6230, 9210i, 9290, 7250i all work without problems even now, except 9500. If anyone calls up Nokia can they ask too and let me know.

It has been escalated past the second level support at Nokia

Are your phones displaying First Name then Last Name when people call you, that is if your First Name field actually has First Name in it and Last Name field has Last Name in it?

Please help?

Does anyones phone display my problem correctly? Nokia has escalated to Finland.

Is your phone ok? First Name then Last Name?

Please help

Hi,

I have the same "problem" with my phone, though it doesn't particularly bother me. My Contacts in the 9500 (all 2000 of them) are set to First Name then Last Name, yet when people call the screen always shows last name then first name.

This absolutely wasn't the case with my 9210i, & though it doesn't bother me, I'd prefer when being called to see first name first, which after all is what I've set as my preference in Contacts.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thank you very very very much, for clarifying this problem. Did you get your phone from Expansys?

In which case I will keep the phone, seeing that I have made Nokia investigate the problem and that someone from Finland will be in contact within two days with an idea on what is going on and how to fix it.

I would appreciate if other do the same, so they can fix it quickly.

Hi,

Yes I did indeed get my phone from Expansys. I've been looking into the first name last name thing a little more today, & it clearly applies to outgoing calls as well as incoming. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not particularly bothered by it, but would nevertheless like to see it fixed in the next firmware upgrade.

I'm generally v impressed with the Outlook integration of the 9500, which seems better to me than with the 9210i. The 9210i wouldn't always carry over Notes fields properly, whereas I've had no probs at all with the 9500 (I have massive amounts of data stored in Notes, a legacy of my Psion Data days). I'm synching using bluetooth, it all works seamlessly...

Richard

Like yours, I have had no other problem with the phone, just the one mentioned, I hope they sort it out. I may in the mean time put all names in the first name field.

Cheers once again.

One thing that is really annoying is that when searching for a contact on the phone side one cannot search in company name fields!!! If I want to find the call center of the company X nothing comes up! Or if I want to order pizza I can't find the pizza place. I have to open the big screen and use contacts, this is a bit difficult while driving.

Mine was bought in Norway, same problem. Last name is showed first when people are calling me. regards from Norway

Why is this a problem?

I've bought my phone here in Kuwait and I'm having the same problem. I also get Last Name then First Name displayed in SMSes on the inside of the phone in the messaging application.

I believe it's a good sign: if this a problem it's because the phone is pretty OK in the rest!

Go to Contacts
Press Menu button
use jog dial to go over to tools
go to settings
press return
make chage from there

i bought mine from Nokia, India. & i have the same problem. i dont like this at all. being such a sofisticated phone, this problem shoule not be there at all. I called Nokia, they have no clue, all they said was you can bring it in & we will load the firmware again if you want. Thats stupid & a waste of my time.

I agree: this is an unacceptable problem. When someone calls you you see the sequence of the names wrong.
I propose we take a lawyer and sue Nokia for this. Writing the names wrong!
I can imagine people call Nokia and their dealer about this. Especially in India.
Such an expensive phone: write the names wrong when somebody calls you.
How do they dare. And then suggest you should rewrite alle the 800 adresses by hand.

This is so unacceptable that I leave Nokia for now. I will take another phone.
Men: am I angry!
I tried to call directly to the Nokia headquarters, to get in touch with the general manager. They did not let me speak to him.
What a bad service.

And then there are people that say : how can you complain about this while a few million people are flushed out of their houses?
No way: Nokia should be stopped, doing bad things like this.

When I am preparing this text flying over Sumatra island, Indonesia.
Lucky them : not having a Nokia 9500 to bother.
