Argh - PCSync *does not* work

7 replies · 3,053 views · Started 24 November 2004

I've seen this mentioned in other threads, but to no resolution.
I've just unpacked my brand new 9500, installed the PC Suite (and then upgraded to the latest version of the PC suite 6.4.8) and neither 'Synchronise Now' nor 'Properties' work. The icon in the taskbar flashes for a while, but that's it.

I can't find any log files, debugging information or anything else to help me track down what's going on.

I can't be the only person experiencing this - I'm running XP SP1 - and, as mentioned in another thread, and possibly a deciding factor, a lot of my drives are networked (office environment), and after the install of PC Suite etc, I did not have anything under c:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Nokia (In fact, this directory didn't even exist).

Can anyone help? Please 😊

I have now tried for 7 hours straight and I'm not able to sync my 9500 with OutlookXP. PC suite 6.3 (came on the CD) and 6.4 has been tried. Both Norwegian and english versions.
The PC Sync software is giving me an error message wich states: "The SyncML Client has not responded"

I have tried making different confgiurations, but no luck. I do not have anything entered in the username/password settings. Tried booting computer and phone several times..

It is driving me crazy !!

Anyone else have had this problem? And solved it ?

I'm answering myself here. Sat about 1 hour with Nokia support this morning. And the problem is: I had a 9210i. Faced towards the IR of the 9500 and synced the whole thing.
If You do this, then most problably the calendar will be fu** up in the 9500. My solution was to totally kill the calendar in the 9500 and resync it with Outlook. Lost only a few appointments which I hadn't written in Outlook, only in 9500.
And now the phone is syncing like it should.

regards from Norway

I had the same problem.
After 5 days and 5 nights, I finally think I know the problem.

The problem is a CORRUPTED CALENDAR file in the nokia.
No problem with Synchronizing e-mails and contacts only calendar does not work.

You have to delete the calendar file and your Nokia will make a new file automatically.

All your calendar items have to be in your pc.
You have to have a new (erasing does not help!!!) calendar file.

1. Make a backup.
2. Go to CALENDAR and open an other calendar file (FILE->MORE OPTIONS-->OPEN CALENDAR). Nokia will give you a file to open in my documents folder.
This is to close the original file, so you can delete it.
3. Delete the original file in the following folder: communicator\system\data\calendar.
Go to DESK->OFFICE->FILE MANAGER to delete this file.
If you can not see the SYSTEM folder in the communicator, go to DESK->OFFICE->FILE MANAGER->MENU (keyboard)->TOOLS->SETTINGS-> show system directory->yes.
4. Go to Calendar and you will see a new empty calendar.
5.RESET PC SUITE PROFILE in your nokia and make a new configuration in your pc
6. If all the calendar items are in your pc (outlook) you can start synchrozining.

Good Luck,

Bennie.

I had the same problem.
I can synchronize e-mails and contacts but NOT the calendar.

Could it be the same problem with my new 6630? Please anybody know about this? I have been working with it whole weekend.

Thank you very much for that fix Bennie. I imported my calender from my 9210i. I didn't have a problem with syncing because, um, I don't sync. However it was taking like a *second* to open each day, which is completely ridiculous. Now it's all dandy 😊

Ian

Great help. You solved a longtime problem for me.
In addition I would like to post that if the deleting of the calendar-file returns an error " calendar-file in use" you simply need to open another calendar in the menum, while you are in the application.
