Syncing to Outlook 2003 not working

18 replies · 7,991 views · Started 25 November 2004

Hi,

I am unable to sync my 9500 to Outlook 2003. The error message is "failed to open Outlook". I am using Nokia PC suite 6.4.8 on Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003 SP1. All other connectivity between the 9500 & my PC seems to be working fine (connection is via USB). Does anyone have any ideas as to what is needed to make syncing to Outlook 2003 work? Many thanks.

Regards,
Quambie

I have the same set up as you and my 9500 sync's no worries, I don't know what would fix yours.

Just might want to uninstall and reinstall everything including drivers for the cable.

Thanks for your reply guys. I remain hopeful then of getting it to work. Can I ask a couple of questions:

(a) How was your Outlook 2003 installed? An upgrade from a previous version (ie. Outlook 2000) or a "clean" install. The reason I ask is that in my search for a solution, I came across a person who apparently fixed the problem by downgrading to Outlook 2000 first, & then upgrading back again to Outlook 2003. My installation is a "clean" one.

(b) Where is your mailbox location? Exchange server or local.

Many thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Quambie

@quambie

My Outlook is an upgrade from Outlook 2002 and I have applied all the SP/upgrades. The sync works both on local and when connected to the Exchange server. I think you have to make sure you pick the right email profile (e.g. "Outlook"😉 when setting-up PC Suite (I hope I remembered this correctly, as I have both the Sony Ericsson and Nokia PC Suites running on my laptop)

WinXP/Outlook 2003 synching works just fine. This is a completely fresh install of both WinXP and Outlook, local mailboxes. I also had the P800 synching software installed, then removed it and installed the Nokia PC Suite.

However, haven't really gotten the other PC Suite applications to work - and the Phone Browser is so slow that I can open a folder, let the flash light wave around while go make a cup of coffee.... in fact, the whole 9500 seems slower than the 9210 😞

I have XP but did find one problem. Unlike 9210i, when you set up so the 9500 can only sync to Outlook in that uni-directional mode, I have to initiate the synchronisation from the 9500. Can't get it to work when started from PC Suite.

@TheJoker, just for the record my 9500 PC Suite works as quickly as my SE P910 PC Suite. I do use USB2 connector, not sure if this has an effect. Also I am using XP with SP2 without any specialist firewall s/w (just the basic version in XP).

Thanks Jah! The synching seems a bit faster than P800 actually, but browsing files on the phone is ridiculously slow! If it works at all - I've just tried to time it, but explorer opened and then it timed out...

On top of that, some of the windows in the PC Suite programs seem to appear off the screen, and the main application is too high for my 1280x600 Vaio C1 screen... Grrrr... some arty-farty person at Nokia has been "smart" again...

Not very impressed.

Just so you know what "slow" means to me; I rebooted the machine, and opened the Phone Browser, in there I clicked "Nokia 9500" and timed it, I was looking at the flash light searching for content for 1 minute and 54 secnods - almost 2 minutes!!! Pathetic!

I had the same problem on my Home PC with outlook 2003 , but at Work I have the same Outlook 2003 and it worked fone , but in know that my home pc has some error , so i'd advice to re install outlook (Fresh Copy)

@The Joker
Hi - i have the exact same problem. The Nokia Browser i soooooooo slow.
I wanted to copy 255 contacts from one folder on my harddisk til "Contacts" in the Nokia Browser.
Hold on ...... transfertime almost 30 minutes. NOT 30 sec. but hour. Whats happening here.
After that i syncronised with my 6230 - went a bit faster.

Have you somehow solved your problem - if so, how ?

I cant work with this crap software - do you know if something i can find something else for my 6230 ???

thanx for a fast reply - you are welcome to mail me ... polle_mobilos at hotmail.com

I have kind of given up, but, if my memory serves, don't synchronise before you use the phone browser. I.e restart your computer, use the 'Phone Browser', then move your files, and then synchronise if you want... better yet, get a stand alone card reader... hehehe...

I'm seriously hoping that Nokia will release a new version of the software and the firmware of the 9500....

Please let me know if this is of any use to you.

Hello Joker
I found this - mobiledit....
[url removed]

try it out - works fine for me, and VERY fast to.
infact i will call it the best software i have seen until know.
With the Ma600 IR i connected my Samsung e700, read the intire phonebook, did a copy (ctrl c or edit kopi all) moved the E700 away and connected my Nokia 6230. Connected instanly ! pasted the phonebook, hit "write" and the entire shi... went straight to the 6230.

Result - i wasted about 6 hours yesterday, didnt get any sleep at all... 😞
But know i have moved all my stuff fra the old E700 - the 6230.

But know i works - i has some bug though - i could not get acces to some of the folders in the 6230, but i wil try again later.
Supose you can fin a key somewhere - please mail me if you do so.

RIP Nokia Suite :icon13:

Hi all,
Still trying to sort out Outlook 2003 syncing with my 9500 (my case is now being looked at by Nokia R&D!). Just out of interest, I attempted the same syncing with a Nokia 7600 (which uses the same Nokia PC Suite), & everything synced perfectly. Not to sure what that tells me, but here's hoping Nokia R&D can find a answer.
Cheers,
Quambie

Polle, tack for lanken till MobilEdit.

I'm not from UK at all, I'm from Finland, but I do live in UK. 😊 I might just try mobiledit...

Does it integrate into Outlook 2003 (or any other outlook for that matter), i.e does it synch with outlook?

Englanniksi kiitos!

You should have your Outlook open when synchronising, this should prevent this error. At least it helps for me.
