Private area / wallet function

25 replies · 4,947 views · Started 25 November 2004

Does anyone know of a private area on the phone equivalent to Nokia's wallet function? I would like to store bank details, passwords etc somewhere secure.

I havent found anything like it, having spent a lot of time playing with the phone. Does anyone know whether this is included in new firmware - which incidentally I cant get due to having a Vodafone handset which apparently has the latest firmware.

Thanks

I don't think the feature exists on the X, and from what I've been told, it's not due for inclusion in a future firmware.

Just to clear this up - Vodafone handsets are currently running the firmware which was made available to them at the time of release - i.e. it's the first Vodafone firmware released by Sendo.

The new firmware being talked about (the 60D release, otherwise known as 1.98.5.2) WILL be available for Vodafone UK handsets very soon! (probably the same time as the rest of these firmwares get released) - this is DUE to be this week!

maybe next week then

Speedman - don't be like that. I know there were some extra delays due to extra testing, but I'm told it should be out this week!

Would you rather wait another week and have it more stable, or get it sooner and have it more buggy? Knowing how everyone in here reacts at the merest sign of a bug, I think waiting is a FAR better option, don't you agree???

afaik, that facility on some Nokia phones is provided by EpocWare HandySafe.

http://nokia-3650-software.epocware.com/Handy_Safe.html

This installs & runs on the SendoX without problems. However, the HandySafe desktop app wont allow you to sync your bank, credit card details etc with the Sendo X as the desktop app hasnt been designed to work with the Sendo PC Connect application. However, I have found a workaround for this: just copy the HandySafe safe.dat & safe.ind files between the PC & SendoX or vice versa.

Stu: Make sure sendo take their time with the release. I have patience so i dont mind how long it takes. I would prefer you taking your time, that way it will be as good, and as stable as it possibly can be 😊

My Vodafone Sendo looks forward to the upgrade 😊

Omegax, just incase it sounds confusing...I don't work for Sendo and have no official connection with them, I just happen to know soomeone who does work for them, and that person gave me the insight into the extra testing having been decided upon.

I for one am quite happy to wait, as I too would like the new firmware to be as stable as possible.

Sorry, easy mistake to make 😊 You just sounded official. Not a bad thing really lol

LOL😊 Or did I just sound fed up at people constantly harping on about "where is it, where is it..."? 😉

Is there really any difference? 😃 Im sure the guys at Sendo are under enough pressure as it is, with the X being their first Smartphone and all. That and supplying free updates that are actually stable, unlike some (aka nearly all) microsoft ones lol

I am not sounding off again but there is a big difference when you have had your phone for 5 months and it still wont receive calls and txt msg's or connect to the network properly, after this amount of time you would want the update yesterday.

it does get a little frustrating which can be a bad thing when I have my X in my hand and a lovely big white wall in front of me.

I can see why patience may be running a little thin for someone whose had the phone so long, but the shear fact that you still have the phone leads me to believe that you are willing to wait.

You've waited 5 months, whats another few days.

.... of a phone call when your next move is depended on it.

HERE IS ONE SITUATION: I have been stuck for over 30 minutes at night which was by the way was very cold and then having to flag a taxi drive to pay him to use his phone.

Yeah, I bet it could have been worse if I was in a 'bad neighborhood'... do you think I will be trying to make a call then?.... The only use this phone has in important situations is the trash can. I [almost] threw my phone to a brick wall I was utterly pissed. Some just use their phone here and there and some use their phone to conduct life. Now you understand? They need to get their sh#t together and NEVER release a phone that is NOT functional, ever, period.

Think about this... I paid $650 dollars for the phone & accessories, cancelled the current AT&T contract to switch carriers [T-Mobile] (a $275 expense)... basically the whole enchilada just to get myself a good and new change of service. But instead I paid the cost [of nearly $1,000.00 USD] and to find out I paid to be the experiment or ginea pig of this whole purchase which is just plain stupid. Imagine everthing you buy just as reliable as the Sendo X. And then imagine it being acceptable everywhere. Wouldn't that suck more than life itself??

Rest my bones...

Look, im not here to defend Sendo, or the phone. I can only judge my responses by my own experiences. I have never not been able to make or recieve a call, the phone has never crashed or failed to charge and most importantly of all, it works.

I am happy with my phone. Yes it has a few glithces here and there, what phone doesnt, you should just be greatful that Sendo are actually trying to make up for any mistakes they have made by producing free updates.

If you dont like the phone, take it back, get another one and use that instead. Simple.

Sendo will never be able to fix every problem that everone has with this phone, thats just impossible. People expect perfection, when perfection doesnt exist.

Remember, everything takes time. This is their first Smartphone, there were bound to be problems. Im sure the first time you do something new you dont get it totally right. At least they are trying to fix things.

That's why testing is so important which is part of doing business. I understand the situation which needs no defence. I can't take it back or I would have. I won't sell because it is used which will mean a substantial decrease in my investment.

Point is:

You buy a phone, smartphone or not, to play the role of the phone. If the phone would act as a phone then really everything else becomes secondary. I just hope I don't get any brain tumors because of such an untested phone. I do feel activity of my right side of my brain where I use the phone the most. My health and everyone health should be of most importance. I might have a lawsuit in my hands if I get diagnosed with something that I feel is directly tied to my Sendo X.

Its actually their second attempt, their first attempt failed for whatever reason.

Yes I have kept my phone but at the moment its sitting in the drawer gathering dust while I am using my 7110 untill the new f/w comes out, as I bought the phone in the uk (expansis UK) I can get a full refund anytime in the first year if the phone doesn't work how it should, I have always said in previous threads that I will see what this new f/w is like before I send it back, if its not upto scratch then I will be sending it back.

Anyway no hard feelings, this is what forums are for.

p.s. it is good to see somebody who actually has an X that works, it would be interesting to find out how many others work to their satisfaction.

A rather intersting point also, if you read the review of the 1st sendo smartphone http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/mobilephones/0,39023925,10002103,00.htm , the part at the bottom of the page about the MP3 player, "We tried to see how the phone would react if we called it while it was playing a 160Kbps MP3: it didn't pick up the call, but that may be a function of the beta software on our review sample" sounds all too familiar, this is a problem that they have been having since 2002, I think that 2 years should be enough to sort out a problem like that.

Dont worry man, im not taking any offence to anything. Come on, its only the net 😃

One thing i can only assume is that since my phone is newer it has an improved Firmware than yours. Maybe some of the problems you have experienced have been fixed in my version, and therefore, in the new version due for imminent release.

It may have been two years, but maybe the backend software is different, therefore there would have to be a different solution to the problem.

What version F/W does your S X have?

Well said Omegax. Unfortunately some people aren't as patient or as tolerant as you or I.

I'm not getting at anyone in particular here; there's no point in starting a flame war, and yes, I do understand the frustrations of those who's phone's don't work properly, but I will say this...

If you're in the UK, and you have either a Pixmania, Expansys or Vodafone phone (running 1.56 or better firmware) then you shouldn't have any significant problems - certainly not any which result in missed calls. IF YOU ARE, then I suggest you uninstall some applications (specifically those which run in the background all the time) to try to resolve the issue.

The Sendo X is NOT a bad phone - it certainly doesn't deserve what some people are saying about it on here - if you're even slightly sensible, you can realise that it's mostly 3rd party applications which cause problems on this phone.

Rather than ranting that the phone is crap, it's more use to everyone if you can do a bit of testing to narrow down the problem, then file a decent, concise and detailed bug report with Sendo - this will then allow them to do something about fixing the problem...which they do want to do!

I would be patient if I had another phone. I don't have 3rd party programs, which of course jeapordize the phone's already crippled functionality.

On top of that, I have been following this forum along with others at the start of the first release of the Sendo X, which brings me at the French release of X 1.56.2.2

And to tell is like it is, the f/w update made noticable difference in terms of my initial use when it was finally released and first became available on ebay 2-3+ months ago. I had almost no use for the phone when it arrived because of such an unreliable signal. Now with the update, you can appreciate some signal but to be frank, still not even close to being useful in real situations.

I hope my power switch doesn't wear out prematurely since power cycling it everytime I want to make a decent call is inevitable. I don't hate Sendo. I just hate the Sendo X. I am sure it will be good at a certain point in time. And by that time something else will come out and be better and should blow it away. This is the WORST experience I ever had with any wireless phone. Even AT&T roaming outside the nation works better than this. I won't even try to blame the network. T-mobile even proved to me that the Sendo X I have is practicaly useless AS A PHONE.

What's even worse than making a call is ANSWERING a call which freezes the phone completely requiring a complete reboot of the phone. Try driving and rebooting your phone 4 times in a row to just end up giving up on returning a bugged call. THIS PHONE IS SO UNRELIABLE, IT IS FLAT OUT DANGEROUS!! I wonder if there is any litigation involving the product I purchased which stated promising technology. If I could file a complaint to the FTC & BBB..... believe me I would. I waited patiently, probably more than most. I see eBay selling used Sendos ALL THE TIME. Check for yourself.

If anyone thinks this is a great phone, please buy from me. I will willingly RUSH the shipping to take it away.... far away.

Bottom Line:

Sendo may be great, but the Sendo X is useless... for now. Then it will become obsolete by the time it works as a phone.

Again, brain tumor anyone?

oh.... and if you feel the Sendo X is giving you unexpected cramps in your head because of use, especially the side you press your phone to, please follow me for a class action lawsuit. I am seriously concerned about my early symtoms.... Hope others do not end up finding out their life is at risk. THIS IS NO JOKE.

Im starting to think that people are delibertately trying to find things wrong to blame on the X. You think you have a developing brain tumour from using your phone so much? I thought you've been saying you cant make or anwser calls properly? Surely you cant have both, im confused.

Its far more likely that you just have a headache because you are stressing yourself out about this phone.

As you said, your initial update made the phone more useful for you, so does that not mean that this next update (which they are obviously taking their time to test, as you wished) will do the same?

Remember, with testing, comes time. You have to be patient if you want things to work.

Yeah and with time comes a release of a RELIABLE product. Not the other way around, i.e. product then reliability due to time.

THIS PHONE IS JUST STUPID.

Stress, I didn't know what stress was until I bought this phone. I hope I don't age prematurely from it.

I really wish I had something nice to say.... oh wait I do. My memory card works. Will anyone care?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also might I add that the people who are fed up with it had this phone for too long. Omegax, sure seems with your positive attitude and gentle charactor.... that you have owned this phone for a few minutes.

Wonder what kind of face you'll have in a couple months...

Its perfect... what a great programme. I stupidly paid and downloaded the PC version first, then realised you could get the sis file for free for your phone!!

Anyway, excellent product and I wouldnt be without it. Although can anyone in the know tell me how safe this really is. Say my phone was stolen... what are the chances of the programme being hacked and all my information being read?? With personal bank details in there it would be a nightmare.

Thanks for the advice

It says it has 448-bit encryption which is very good. I was told by another company that you need a long (random) password to be effective. If you just use 'abcd' then the level of encryption doesn't matter. Use 16+ characters that isn't a dictionary word (not that there are many of them!), perhaps a phrase or something. ireallylovemysendox is a possibility 😉

Is the sis file really free to download? It says $5.20 on their website.
