thinking of getting a 6260 questions

Hi all, im considering to get a 6260 and wanted to ask a few questions:

1. whats the build quility like of the phone, does it feel solid, is the flip + twist screen solid and will it last long?

2. How bad is it to use with one hand? I have quite large hands so im thinking i might get away with it.

3. Does the phone know what mode its in, as in open, twisted, closed?

4. As this phone does not have an outer screen can you use the phone with the screen the other way around all the time and twist it if you need to use the keypad? Where is the mic located and would it allow this?

5. Are the phone functions exactly the same as the 7610? Do all of the softwares work on the 6260?

6. Connectivity, does the phone have the same connectivity as the 7610? Can you drag and drop files onto the phone?

Answers to any of these would be greatly appreicated.

The build quality is not the best I've ever seen on a Nokia phone. It looks awesome (IMO) but the feel of the keypad is such that while the keys are in there firm, you can imagine them falling. The joystick isn't fantastic and makes action games a 'probably not'.

Definately a phone that works better with both hands due to the location of the action keys (on the upper 'screen' part. However, again, I have found that as I get accustomed to using the phone, I can manage one-handed use. But two is definately better for this phone (big hands may make it easier for you to use it one-handed, though if your fingers are large, you may have trouble with the joystick - try and give it a go before you buy one).

Does the phone know what mode its in, as in open, twisted, closed?
Yes. If you twist it half way, the camera mode starts automatically, but if you twist it quickly to 'tablet' form, it stays the same. Also, if activate the camera and switch the lid back to normal clamshell mode, the camera image will flip accordingly. So the phone really is quite smart when it comes to this.

Yes, you can use it in its tablet form without a problem (I do it all the time and I've even seen it used that way on the Nokia Flash promo). As for where the micrsophone is; I don't know.

Don't know. Sorry.

Connectivity, does the phone have the same connectivity as the 7610? Can you drag and drop files onto the phone?
I don't know what the 7610's connectivity is like, but yes, you can drag and drop files onto the phone via Windows Explorer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply TANKERx, one last question, the keypad has the green and red call and hangup keys, so with the phone close and screen flipped how would you answer and hangup calls?

If your saying that you use it closed and flipped all the time the mic has to be on the top half . Also with the joystick can you push it down? As in is it 5 way?

Hi,

When in Tablet Mode, you can access the Answer and Hang-Up functions by using the Left menu button (directly under the screen). When you press it, it pops up a menu with the appropriate options. It can be a bit cimbersome until you get used to it.

As for the Mic, I was concerned that it wouldn't work so well when in Tablet Mode, but I've asked friends how I sound and apart from them telling me not to sing, they can hear me with no problem.

Of course, once you find a Bluetooth headset that works, that's a dream to use with Tablet Mode.

As for the joystick, yes, there is a press in the middle so you have Up, Down, Left, Right and Fire. Don't take my word on the diagonal possibilities though. I'm not much of a gamer (except for the AAS arcade where I must say that I have kicked some bootie in my time 😉 ), so I haven't tried arcade stuff. The fact that Nokia is advertising Sky Force for the 6260 suggests that it may not be all bad, butI just get the feeling that the joystick is not going to be controling any helicopters on my phone.

I went to my local phone shop and had a demo of it!

The phone is quite big and does feel pretty solid, the power button feels very soft and of poor quility :frown: the joystick has the same limp feeking also. It felt a bit strange at first but i think i might get use to that.

I saw what you ment about the different modes, im not too fussed about the camera. Using the phone with one hand seems pretty ok for my hands, but i didnt get a chance to check out the keypad lock. I managed to lock it by the normal way and also by pressing the power button and selecting it from there. I take it there is no way to unlock the phone without opening it.

Im still in two minds about this phone, they power button and joystick doesnt feel right, a bit too soft and doesnt have a positive click.

It does not feel solid. But hopefully it will turn out to be solid. I own it for 2 weeks now.

The best phone to use i the n-gage (with 2 hands). with 1 hand you can use the 6260. but i must say when the joystick center key i often also hit left or right.

3. Does the phone know what mode its in, as in open, twisted, closed?
it turns on the camera when you open it and turn it sideways from the closed state.

4. As this phone does not have an outer screen can you use the phone with the screen the other way around all the time and twist it if you need to use the keypad? Where is the mic located and would it allow this?
yes it works. also for talking no prob.

5. Are the phone functions exactly the same as the 7610? Do all of the softwares work on the 6260?
as it seems to me all the camera related software that worked on the 7610 do not work anymore on the 6260. they need to be updated like photorite sp did in its newest version. otherwise the apps just dont start.

6. Connectivity, does the phone have the same connectivity as the 7610? Can you drag and drop files onto the phone?
i didnt manage to do so. there is no bluetooth serial port. maybe it works via infrared or serial cable (see also other threads).

hope this helps!

ps: mp3 sound is only mono!!!!

Hi,

If you download the latest PC Suite (though it should work with the bundled version), you can do all that dragging and dropping over a Bluetooth connection (If you're using WindowsXP though, you may have to fiddle to install your Bluetooth adapter without loading the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator - maybe 'Eliminator' would be a more suitible word). But I can confirm that you can use Bluetooth to drag and drop.

Also, you can achieve better/faster results (IMHO) by using the DKU-2 cable between the PC and your 6260.
