i had the same problem.. i 've been using it while i am in san fran and san jose.. it's always shown as cingular...
i called customer services and they told me tmobile will automatically switch to cingular when there is a better connection for the phone in some area...
so it's not roaming anything like that..
feel free to use it...
so does that mean that tmobile's reception pretty much sucks? because when i place my sim chip into a tmobile phone it shows tmobile but on my p900 it shows cingular. and thats when im at home, in the same area.

for its better connection

Hi,
I've recently bought a mobile phone from US, but when I received it I find that is T-mobile locked. Oh! surprise! :-/
As far as I know (I called Tmobile customer service) I need to be a 90 days customer in order to claim for an unlock code.
I have tried to open a Tmobile plan (legal way to unlock my mobile) but it seems to be a headache from outside US (Im in Spain, right now).
I cant provide an US social security number, I can provide my passport number but It is a problem...
I cant provide an US bank account, I can pay by credit card, but as far as Im not US resident It is a problem....
I cant provide a VISA, because Im not an US resident...
Conclusion, it is a headache...
Any T-mobile customer could help me? Claim an unlock code for my mobile (I have to provide my IMEI)?
I will send you a gift from Spain
or maybe I can pay a fee for inconveniences.
And for sure you will have my friendship
Thanks a lot in advance:
Eu
