Hi all,
A couple of months ago I used to be able to surf the full internet using Opera but recently I've not be able to. I've not changed any settings on the phone. I've added the O2 proxy 193.113.200.195 port 8080 to my opera settings but I can only view pages up to 8K in size (it hangs at 8K but pages under this display fine). Any ideas?
Hi
I've had the same problem using the Doris browser on my 7650 for about 5 weeks now - I've emailed O2 about 7 times in the last three weeks - and spent (wasted) nearly 20 speaking to their "helplines" trying to fix this problem - all I've had back from them is a total avoidence of why I couldn't connect to the internet..."check your settings"(again)..."clean your SIM"(c'mon - please!!)...
After a search on the Google mobile groups at the weekend I've discovered that O2 have closed the :80 portal to PAYG customers. The :80 (eighty) portal is where (UK?) mobile devices connect to the "real" HTML internet - not the pathetic WAP services aimed at 14 year olds (apologies to any 14yr olds reading this!). They want to keep access to the real internet as a "privilage" exclusively for contract customers - which sucks and is a backward step.
I am very angry.
I was a Genie customer that had the unlimited GSM WAP tariff - an offer made by O2 when the possibility of ever connecting to the real internet on a mobile device probably seemed years away...about 18 months ago my tariff was suddenly transferred to the O2 300 txts & 300 GSM WAP minutes per month. The forced change still represented an unbeatable PAYG package that I was very happy with - especially the 5hrs of free "real" internet.
I haven't emailed O2 to confront them with the withdrawl of :80 access - yet! - I think I need to calm down before I do!!
Maybe you should contact them yourself - IF - enough people complain, they may just reverse their decision.
And if I don't get any joy from O2 - fuk 'em - but which other UK PAYG provider does allow full internet access?
Rant over
E😉
