I have a 7650 here. It was locked to ornage in the UK... the signal would come on for about 3 seconds and then just go completely.
I assumed the phone was barred for whatever reason but now i've unlocked it and it's doing it on all networks.
The signal and op. logo just disappear about 3 secs after startup and sometimes don't come on at all?
Anyone any ideas?
contact your local Nokia Service Center or return the phone.
apparently it has a defect.

I thought it must be some sort of defect but wasn't sure if there was a setting that needs changing.
Check software version by pressing *#0000# as I can get the phone upgraded to V3.16 for you but if I remember right the orange one was only V3.16 anyway, short of up grade not much more that can be done with out me or anyone having the phone. (this could be the first case of cross network barring that I have come acroos)
