Contacts problem : name not appearing on txt messages

It could be that you have same number under two different contacts name, so your phone get confused..and it displayed the number instead..

This is my 1st post here and I use a Nokia 6600. I have been using it for some time now and it has been good.... really good. But since recently I also came across this same error 'should I call it', which doesn't display my fiancee's name in her sms text. I used to see her name on the text but not anymore. It only gives me her mobile number. All the other number show their names but not this one. It displayed the name before and suddenly it changed and now it only shows her name. What could be the reason for this?

I tried editing the contact and even deleting and adding it from scratch but still I only get her mobile number in her text. Any advice guys? I have come to the conclution that this may be a software defect but I could be wrong. Please Help!

Oh and by the way I have only this number and do not have multiple numbers under the same name.

Do you have the same number under multiple names/contacts (more than once is enough for this behaviour)? Is there another name/contact with another number very close to the number giving you trouble? All other numbers OK?

Check the nember is stored with an international dialing prefix, e.g. +44 for the UK, this usually solves it if it is not the double number problem.

Well yes I have checked and found no other numbers or names in multiple order. I have only this contact with one unique number in the list but still I see no name but the number in the sms page. It was ok before but this started just recently and now it doesn't change. I noticed that as soon as I send an sms and check my sent box, it shows the number very briefly and then the name appears instead. But the inbox only shows the number now although the contact is in my list under a name. Why is this? I even tries changing the prefix with a + symbol but it remains the same. It's only for this particular contact. Why is that? I can't understand it.

you probably have the number added under another name, does it show the number when he calls your phone? i had the same problem it turns out i had added the number twice but under different names, if it was a software problem wouldnt it do it with all messages?

Me again. Well I did a thorough search for any duplicate numbers on my mobile and it turns out I had the number of my finacee under 'Unknown' which means I had accidently added her number without a name. Well so I removed this number and my call list shows her name instead of her number. But the thing is her sms still show the number and not the name. How come? Should I switch off my mobile and restart it for this to go back to normal? I don't switch off my mobile often since sometimes when I do this, incoming sms don't beep and I doesn't show the notification of a new message. It just displays the envelope on the right top corner. This could be a bug in the software. So when this happens I simply restart my phone.

I tried switching off my mobile but still the sms doesn't show the name. What can be the problem for this? I'm beginning to think this could be a glitch between the two networks. Becuase before the name appeared and this happened without warning. I think it could be a network glitch because I have exhausted all options.

It will not change messages already recieved, only show on new ones recieved since you deleted the duplicate entry. Or is it still happening on new sms?

Hey Lakeywhite, you were right. The next moment I received an sms from this contact, the name appeared. Now the number doesn't show 😊 Only the name.
