7610 volume extremly low

7 replies · 2,854 views · Started 09 December 2004

i bought a 7610 for my mom the other week. she likes it, but she normally has the headset attached to the phone and the phone is usually in her handbag. so most of the when anyone calls her, she can't really hear anything at all.

well, traffic noises, people shouting and stuff contribute to the problem.

anyway, i am using a 6260 and even with my hds-3 attached, the ring tone comes out from the loudspeaker, loud and clear.

is there any fix to this...?

the firmware for the 7610 is V 4.0421.4ch, 22-05-04, RH-51

thanks,

-Nay

7610 is really loud. Have you checked whether it is the headset which is causing a lower volume ring? Is it set on ascending? Set the ring tone to bee or ring ring, these are really loud. Some midi/amr files may play at a lower volume.

I see you have the ch version - maybe different.

i have just played around with the settings, apparently when the vibration is set to 'on' the ring tone is much softer (like now) but when i turn off vibration, it rings just as loud as my 6260. should i get a firmware upgrade? i don't have the warrenty card though, i'm in singapore and i get the phone for a much lower price if i don't take the box and stuff (bad mistake i guess)

how much does a firmware upgrade usually cost there...?

The "ch" means its the Chinese version.
So if you have v4.0421.4 ... you have the Western version, which supports those languages like English, French, German etc etc
However, if you have v4.0421.4ch ... your phone supports English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese ONLY

Normally, within warranty, firmware upgrades are free, especially if you complain about a problem. Otherwise an NSC will charge, I think it is 500rs in India, approx. $11 US. Your ringer/vibration problem is fixed in the firmware releases after 4.0421. If you need this function, you should update it. Remember all phone memory data is lost, so back up first.

Yes, without box, etc. usually refurbished used phones (cleaned, panels replaced etc. to look like new), but then that is why lower price. People like having latest/newest so many dealers oblige by doing this (their profit also jump...) But if IMEI No. within Nokia database in Singapore, then maybe SC will accept.

The Nokia representative at the Nokia Care Centre I went to ... said that the phone firmware can be upgraded for free, as long as it is still covered by the 12 mths warranty.

Also ... you need to provide proof of when and where you purchased the phone (according to the Nokia Rep)

Ciao ~

i didn't buy my phone from an official nokia dealer though. i have no warrenty card, i didn't take it. i am leaving for australia in january and the warrenty i get here does not cover australia - so i thought, what the heck.

although i do have an, all blank, nothing filled other than the dealer stamp, warrenty card from my 6260. but i reckon they have written the IMEI number on the card so i'm quite screwed.

then if it is about US$ (singapore $19), it's something that i can afford. and i'd also like that new feature of not previewing images after taking them, so i'd guess i'd upgrade the firmware.

i guess this is an obviously required feature. coz i need the sound to be loud as i may have left my phone in my room, but i'd need the vibration too since sometimes the phone's in my pocket but i'm in a too noisy enviroment to hear anything.

should i try using a different headset? a new headset costs me $35 though.

thanks,
