"Plans have come to light of a U.K. Government plan to track people through mobile phone masts that now cover the country. The masts, originally thought not powerful enough for any type of surveillance, can be used as a type of radar for people and vehicles."

Big Brother may be coming to the UK in a Big way if this is true.

Let me guess what the Government's Answer is going to be. "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about."

A reply 2 months after posting. I wonder if that is a new record 😊

Acually, I'm surprised nobody else commented when I posted. It's rather scarey stuff, particularly as it is in the UK (would be in line with current thinking if it was the US).

I live thousands of miles away from the UK, nothing in it for me 😃

But i may end up in the UK for colledge! 😮 (it's only 3 years away! time goes fast when your're having fun!)

Yeah it is really scary, and the most scariest part, not alotta people know about it! Will they be surprised!

1) most people have PAYG sims and as such the networks dunno who you are.

2) they are no good for getting an accurate position closer than 100meters (probably even less accurate than that).

3) you can turn your phone off.

4) under the data protection act that method couldn't be used unless a bill was passed to allow the police access to that data from the mobile networks.

5) reports from people using the SMS road info service based on the same system say it's not terribly more accurate than listening to radio broadcasts.

Bah a 1984 style posting and I missed it...... 😞
