Has anyone managed to connect the A1000 to the desktop suite? I can't.
The Mroute software specifies that the phone is connected by USB, the phone indicates the same, but the Desktop software simply says 'Please connect the handset'

Initial checklist:
I'm sure there are many more checks, but you have to make sure you've tried all of those.

Thanks Mitch, all good suggestions which I have tried. Still no Success.
Version of the desktop suite is 1.0.0.610 and the A1000 driver is dated 5/4/2004 version 2.0.0.4

- Is the cable connected correctly?
- Have you got the desktop suite on your A1000 connecting to the computer with the right settings (Look up in control panel -> Connections -> Desktop suite)
- Have you actually run desktop suite on your phone
- in the mRouter software have you got usb and only usb connected
- Have you tried resetting you phone with the usb cable already plugged in?
- Have you tried alternate USB ports?
- Have you the latest motorola sync software?

I've not had any problems with service pack 2. Check whether the Windows firewall is blocking the program talking to the phone.
Turned if off, made no difference, still the same message "Please connect the handset". Mrouter shows the handset connected on the USB connection and the handset shows the connection.
Sorry, I may missed something. After installing the software on your PC and connecting the USB cable; did you go to Launcher icon (top right corner) and then down to the Desktop Suite icon (bottom left corner); then press the connect button? This needs tobe done everytime youwant toconnect!
Hi, I just got a A1000 and have the same problem. I seem to be having more success on my sons' PC however (I'll need to try theirs with the updated software from Motocoders.com).
I believe the problem may be with the USB on my PC, being a couple of years old I don't think it is the High speed USB2.0 standard.
On the newer PC I have been able to view the File Manager (something I couldn't do on mine), however any attempt to install software results in the message "not implemented"
So I'd say, check the USB ports on your PC are up to scratch (a PCI USB card to upgrade the PC is fairly inexpensive)
Good Luck
:icon14: I have updated my USB drivers and everything is 100% now I'd suggest you make sure you are using the best USB drivers for your board and not Microsofts standard offering
Thanks for all the advice
I have now installed the software on my laptop which has XP. All works fine, which comfirms that the Handset is not the problem.
Still can't get a connect on my HP media centre PC, so I will not check the USB drivers.
I find the USB connection to be flakey. Sometimes it works fine, other times it requires a reboot of the phone or a bit of messing about in the hardware profile section on the USB area.
Anyway, if all you are trying to do is send files to or from your phone then get yourself a Bluetooth Dongle (10 from Ebay or 19.99 from Maplin) and you can then just drag and drop files to or from your phone without using the Motorola software or cable at all.
This also works for installing software etc. too and if you do want to use the software suite then there's an option to connect via Bluetooth.
If you are transfering large files (such as compressed DVD movies) to your memory card then get yourself a card reader and pop your external memory card in the PC for a minute or so (cheap memory card readers on Ebay, I have one that's integrated with a floppy drive and reads all cards, for 15). Much quicker than USB or Bluetooth.
The only time you really need to use the Motorola software is when you are backing up your contacts or synchronising the phone etc. other file options can be done without as listed above.
Just to add to the above ^^^^^^
You can set the Motorola data suite software up to use BT instead of the cable too.
Go to your phones control panel, select desktop suite, change suite connection from USB to Bluetooth and then on your Windows task bar change the Motorola Connection software so it also checks Bluetooth ports.
Now instead of inserting the cable to your phone, simply click CONNECT on your phone's desktop suite menu and you are connected instantly without any messing about. Much easier...
Also, if using this method you can browse the internet on your A1000 while in range of your Bluetooth dongle (can be up to 100 meters on some dongles). To do this, make sure you are connected via the BT method above, open your A1000 browser, click Disconnect and then enter any valid URL.
If like me you have a firewall then there's a good chance that will prompt you for access, but once that's done you should be able to connect to the internet from your A1000 all over your building 😃
