Deleted Contacts

I've just noticed that some of my contacts are getting mysteriously deleted. I noticed that I was missing contacts in Outlook and suspected the Sendo. I synchronised and saw that another contact was deleted from Outlook by the Sendo. (Luckily I'd backed them up! 😊 ) I haven't deleted any contacts on the phone so don't know why this is happening. I suspect it's only when the phone is synchronised and not in normal use.

Has anyone else seen this?

(I have the Vodafone f/w installed)

This sounds like Outlook and PC Connect are getting their IDs confused. I've not seen it before with the X, but have seen Outlook do wierd things like this when syncing with some other devices.

Your best bet is probably going to be to purposefully delete all the contacts from your phone and re-sync (making sure you don't actually "syncronise" the phone and Outlook, you need to ensure that the contacts are copied down to the phone. Alternatively, do a format of the phone (press 5 while turning on), then re-sync in the same way.

Well I've deleted and updated all the contacts on the X so fingers crossed it has been fixed. I did a resync afterwards and it seems OK for the moment.

It seems strange that contacts are being deleted on both sides as muddled IDs should keep the contact on one side at least. If this has fixed it then it'll be forgotten and filed under 'Unexplained'. Here's hoping.

Thanks Stu.

Hopefully this will have fixed it.

The reason it's possible for it to delete the contacts on both sides is that once the sync software has got the IDs muddled, it then also notices that the modification dates are wrong. In circumstances where Outlook detects the dates and IDs don't match, it helpfully moves the contacts to the deleted items folder. This then causes the sync software to delete the contacts from the phone. The same happens on the other side as well, the phone realises the data is wrong and thinks "oh, that's been modified, but I can't find a match for it", so again trashes the contact 😞

In all of this, I doubt the phone or Outlook is at fault per-say - I think it's just a screw up between the two of them.

(what I do to avoid this is to sync my calendar with Outlook (which still suffers from this, but tends to duplicate entries rather than deleting them) and sync my contacts with the Windows address book (which is seperate from Outlook's) and so will never get modified unless I *specifically* make an effort to do it. That also helps to keep my Outlook and phone contacts seperate, as I store them in different ways)
