9500 as shared drive?

Is there any way that you can configure the 9500 to be seen as a shared drive on a network? This would bypass the agonisingly slow file transfer via PC Suite.

Yes you sort of can, you can setup the 9500 as a FTP server and using the IP that the router assigns the 9500 you can view all the files on the 9500 over Wireless network, not the same as having a shared drive but it gives the same effect for file transfer 😊

See the news post for Series 80 or look on the front page for the download (It's free)

My review is coming any day now 😊

I've just tried mapping the network drive and it won't find it as it's not actually shown as part of the network, just as a device on the network if you see what I mean.

You can save the FTP folder in My Computer so it saves you from typing it in all the time.

For "mapping a drive", you'd need to have either an NFS server, SMB/CIFS server (like Samba) or a NetWare server or other such file server created for the phone (Symbian/Series 80). As far as I know, there isn't one. The FTP server (or possibly also some web/HTTP server) are the closest you can get today.

Similarly, if you wanted to access such file shares from the phone, you'd have to have the corresponding client software written for the phone. It doesn't exist either.

Many thanks for replies! Looks like taking out and replacing the MMC is the "easiest" option when I have a large download!
