Nokia 9500 + SE HBH-65

With all my (Sony)Ericssons (r520, t68i, P800, P900) I didn't need to have BT activated in order for the BT headset to accept incoming and outgoing calls.

But with my 9500, I have to activate BT, and manually make a connection between the 9500 and the HBH-65 (and it stays on all the time, with or w/o making calls, wouldn't that drain both batteries??).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to make it function just like my SE phones? Won't this method drain the battery? Or does a Nokia BT headset for example handle this process better?

Furthermore the quality is not that good. There is a lot of distortion, while the devices are no more than 20-30 centimeters away from each other (and are "in sight"😉.

Are you sure Bluetooth wasnt activated for the Sony Ericssons, it needs to be activated for the BT headset to start the connection. Try pairing the Nokia 9500 and BT headset and set the connection to authorised. It should start when you press the connect button on the Bluetooth Headset.

Yes it does all that (connect when I press the button, but I was wondering if it could auto connect on an incoming or outgoing call).
On my old R520m I could set BT to "Automatic", so BT only went on if I made or received a call.

I'd have no problem turning BT ON with my 9500, BUT it sometimes inteferes with my WLAN, so basically it means I'd have to turn BT on everytime I step into my car (or turn it off everytime I want to connect to WLAN)

Ok, never mind you guys. I put a little bit more time in to it than the last time (about 30 seconds , I have no patience). It works like I want it (mostly), it is all just a bit different than what I was used too!

can u tell me how does it work... in my case the battery of hbh-65 runs out in around 45 minutes even if its full charged.

I'll do some battery testing later on. I hope mine will last a bit longer. In the case of a P900 it lasted for weeks (ok, driving 1 hour a day on average, not making that many calls)

in case i dont make enough calls it lasts for around 2 - 2.5 hrs and if i talk continiously than it is drained in around 40 - 45 min.

let me know who much time does ur works.

Working on it... It has lasted about 2,5 hours now without making calls (and the battery of the headset wasn't full before either).

Anyway, I do have a tip: If you haven't already done so, disable the sound notifications for key-presses (on both the inside as the outside), otherwise it will connect to the headset everytime you press a key.

Ok, 5,5 hours and it's worn out. Making 3 or 4 one-minute calls. But the battery wasn't full when I started the test, so I'm charging the headset right now, and I'll do a "propper" test tomorrow.

thanx for the info..

can u tell me what procedure u use to connect the headset....may b i am doing something wrong.

I've paired the two devices and gave the headset authorisation to connect automatically. When I turn the headset on, it starts "looking" for the 9500 (you can hear that because the headset starts beeping). When both devices found each other, I get a different beep on the headset and a notification on the 9500 that the headset is connected. That's it. Now all sounds that come out of the 9500 also come out of the HBH-65.

Like I said, you better turn key-sounds off, other wise it will connect to the headset everytime you press a key on the 9500

I've used the 9500 + HBH65 for about a week now and the battery of the HBH65 drains MUCH quicker than with the P900. Driving a couple of hours a week usually gave me about 3 weeks of battery. This time it only lasted 5 days (I estimate around 6-7 hours)

I think the "problem" is that the 9500 is connected all the time, while the P900 would only make a connection when needed

ya i think the problem lies in the always connected mode.

same was the case when i used this with 6600... it is always connected.

though the battery life has increased a bit but may be its due to me making less calls these days.

thanx for the input.

No problem

I'm curious to know how long a Nokia BT headset lasts (because they were really "made" for such a connection). Anyone?

FYI - I have a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 bluetooth car kit and can confirm the behaviour you see (presumably all SE kit have a similar chipset basis)

Nokia 6600 - Connection initiated continuously. Does not seem too reduce the battery life of the Nokia 6600 significantly. Interesting, all sounds are played through the loudspeaker of the car kit.

SE P800, P900 - Connection initiated as required. Uses a default ringing ringtone.

That is a pro (all sound being put through the carkit/headset).

Our problem is not that the battery life of the 9500 is reduced, but that the headset's battery life is reduced. But offcourse, you don't have that problem using a carkit 😃
