Real Player 9500 Con-job!

Hi...I am kinda confused and baffled as to why playing media links at www.realguide.com using Real Player in my 9500 impossible! I cannot understand the incompetence on Nokia's side in actually putting a Real Player when it doesn't work! 🙄 An absolute con-job by Nokia and real.com :icon13:

Well i hope PVP will come out with a solution quick since it has mentioned in their website that their new player would be able to stream Windows Media files too.

Real Player in 9500 works only on video taken from the device and some 3gp files.

Have you actually tried a wide range of Real Media?...there are that many different real formats now it's hard to know if your trying to steam the right file.

I've only tried once, with the same results...perhaps worth contacting Real for a solution or answer.

've have tried to contact Nokia/Real but they never replied. This 9500 to me is a good business gadget but i have to say that apart from its excellent email/fax functions eg: media player by Real is very very poor in terms of usability. I wanna use the media player for business news updates like the BBC, CNBC and Bloomberg. ThanThe reason i bought this gadget is because of it's EDGE capabilities for quick streaming.
Have u come across any real media links that actually work on the 9500?
Could u post it here so i can try it out?

Thanks!

I havent tried streaming videos but normal converted mobile videos in the format of .rm work well.

I have tried streaming today. A few files were "not supported" (they were ment for Real player, but were not in the .rm format). When I did find a .rm file (1,3MB) I tried opening, it started real, it said loading, kept doing that for about 20 minutes and I got tired of waiting... 🙄

Yeh beats me why real streaming won't work. Have to look into it more. Trying BBC's radio 4 stream, i get connection and then buffering, and it just hangs there. A tcpdump show's these packets (replaced ip's with names):

04:32:06.722100 Nokia9500.15336 > BBCServer.10268: udp 3
04:32:06.880380 BBCServer > Nokia9500: icmp: Nokia9500 udp port 10268 unreachable (DF)

This is withouth any ports blocked just behind an NAT, i.e. a normal reapl player on the same network will play the stream.

I've noticed that in some instances you can't share a connection, for example if you have email open using wi-fi then try and open the internet browser it says "connection already in use", so the same could also apply with the browser and real player, if you are trying to steam using a connection that is already in use this could explain why it gets to the buffer stage and hangs.

Perhaps worth trying finding the connection via GPRS then using Wi-Fi to steam the media or the other way around.

I have been able to get streaming working--but not from a website yet. If I transfer in a .RA (or is it .RAM)? file and open it from Messaging it will go out and connect to the server and play the stream.

Bluetooth file transfer...

Hi

I accessed a Yahoo group file section and when clicking on a .rm or .ram file it downlaoded and played fine on my Nokia 9500.

Didn't have much luck on the BBC news in video site though which is a regular of mine when away from the UK.... maybe soon 😉

Rob

The files from giantradio streamed ok (although it was buffering every 30 seconds, but hey, it's a phone... 😃) which was pretty cool. It seems like bigger files cause the troubles...
